Presidential Scholar nominee list

Anonymous
The US Presidential Scholar nominee list for 2022 is posted. Our school has over 20 students, however some students that I know personally who got perfect SAT/ ACT scores are not listed here. Why is that?

My DS junior took SAT last month and received a 1600. I was wondering if OP can post what the criteria is to be nominated. The website says it is based on scores for the general category.

It is based on ACT/SAT score only. Other factors kick in you go deeper into the process. Kids with perfect score not on the list? I'd question whether they really received perfect score.

My DC is on from MD with a 1580.

A 1600 would get you on the list everywhere. A 36 may or may not. Some states require a 36/36/36/36 (CA/TX/?).

So stumped. DC showed me a classmate's mom posting screenshot of 1600 SAT, but kid not on 2022 PS list (I just looked it up). How does that happen? Also see a kid on list who is NMSF and rejected @ Chicago. Doesn't make sense (to me).

I believe they do not use superscoring...it's based on best scores from up to three sittings but NOT superscores. So if the "perfect" scores are superscores, they wouldn't count.

NMSF is based on PSAT.

As for the perfect SAT, it's possible they didn't check some box that allows for their scores to be released to third parties or something like that...if they care a whole lot, they can contact the department of Ed...

I'm actually pretty stunned how many kids I know who are on the DC list. Congrats to all!

Is the kid a current senior? That's who is included.

Can't imagine this mom not ensuring every box not checked off as she screenshot and posted the SAT score.

Regarding the other kid, I am still stumped that a kid on this list, who is an NMSF with a 4.0 u/w (school phased out APs over 10 years ag), gets rejected ED by Chicago. Get that it might happen in Ivies (know that happened to another kid on this list with same stats and applying to an Ivy) but why would Chicago not take a kid like that.

Yes, a senior. My HS BF made it all the way through - he loved it.

What does it mean by getting all the way through? What does this get you?

A trip to DC! And a chance for your HS GF to post about you on DCUM.

He was one of the ~150 ultimately named as a Presidential Scholar. All the people on this list in the link above are candidates for that honor. The scholars will be announced later in the spring (or at least it was that way when he won followed by a trip to DC).

I tease, but the timing is less than ideal. As others have said, it's late enough that it has no bearing on college applications (and the colleges have already seen the exemplary scores anyway). I'm sure it's a nice honor to have on the CV--it's something people can list a bit later when including the scores themself would be crass. But last year my kid was nominated and declined to submit an application, needing a break after college applications.
