Haha, I should tell him.

I tease, but the timing is less than ideal. As others have said, it's late enough that it has no bearing on college applications (and the colleges have already seen the exemplary scores anyway). I'm sure it's a nice honor to have on the CV--it's something people can list a bit later when including the scores themself would be crass. But last year my kid was nominated and declined to submit an application, needing a break after college applications.

Can see that on not completing - it's been a long year getting to know.

Yes, the distinction is a nice proxy for the scores. I included Phi Beta Kappa when I drew up my first resume as that seemed more effective than my random gpa, which now seems low in an era of grade inflation, even at some colleges/universities.

A 1600 would get you on the list everywhere. A 36 may or may not. Some states require a 36/36/36/36 (CA/TX/?).

So stumped. DC showed me a classmate's mom posting screenshot of 1600 SAT, but kid not on 2022 PS list (I just looked it up). How does that happen? Also see a kid on list who is NMSF and rejected @ Chicago. Doesn't make sense (to me).

Is the kid a current senior? That's who is included.

Yes, a senior. My HS BF made it all the way through - he loved it.

What does it mean by getting all the way through? What does this get you?

He was one of the ~150 ultimately named as a Presidential Scholar. All the people on this list in the link above are candidates for that honor. The scholars will be announced later in the spring (or at least it was that way when he won followed by a trip to DC).

Another reason why it is anticlimatic for DC kids, lol.

A mom friend posted that there must have been something in the water at Franklin Montessori School in the mid-aughts.

Yeah, my DD is on the list and is not doing the application to go further. She is DONE with essays/applications and there is just no incentive (and, to be clear, it would be such a long shot anyway....)...best of luck to the kids who go for it!

Does anyone know what's the SAT cutoff score for Washington DC?

1600 for SAT?

No, my kid qualified (class of 21) with 35, 36, 35, 35.

My kid also qualified with similar ACT scores...also: 1) I don't think they super score; and 2) I think they drop the science subscore because there is no science SAT science score.

Not 1600; that’s all I know.

New to this and admittedly haven't read al 6 pages.

Could someone give me the basics about what a Presidential Scholar is and how you apply (if you do) and what the criteria are.

My DC is a Senior, in the midst of a rough application season with only rejections so far, and they have an A- level GPA a small catholic private and a 1550 SAT. We are in MD but their school is in DC.

Yes, I should probably know this already, but I don't and I'm looking for something to show my kid that their accomplishments are noticed somewhere.

My kid had 35/35/35/36 last year and did not qualify in Va

It's an automatic from the SAT. If you Senior had been a candidate, you would already know. Sorry the early rounds have rough, but remember that more than half of applicants find their acceptance from the RD round .

We found out DC made the list but they'd already submitted all applications so no mention on any of them...

Congratulations! But completely useless. If she is the final winner, it might have some beef if she is waitlisted. But it is as useless as National Honors Society when it comes to college app.
