LOL Stop deluding yourself. Colleges don't care about your so-called big 3. There's no such thing. It's just a figment of DCUM imagination. DP |
| It all comes down to each school’s relationships with the colleges. |
| Actually it depends on each applicant and his/ her individual accomplishments and potential. |
Sometimes this is true, like the spaces reserved for Princeton at TJHS. Privates and publics can have this arrangement, but only with one school and most do not have them at all. More claim to have them than actually do. |
This is the most important thing. |
I wish more people would use "Full stop" in threads. Full stop. It really adds significance and intelligence to a thread. Full stop. I plan to use it liberally. Full stop. |
I like period. Period. Much more impactful. Period. |
|
Full stop is super annoying!
Just state your point clearly. |
| Full stop. |
You're kidding yourself if you think your average kid at STA could be a star at Maret. You don't know what you're talking about. Plenty of kids at Maret were accepted at STA/NCS, but chose Maret. The question is where your kid is compared to his/her peers. It doesn't matter if his GPA is a 4.4 or 3.5 if that GPA puts him in the top of the class, then he will be competitive for top colleges. As for big state schools, that's not what most private school kids are aiming for. That said, plenty still get into UVA, UMich, UCLA, etc from our private. So stop complaining about grade deflation. Your kid is average... just accept that. The good news is that he or she will be well prepared to succeed in college with that STA/Did well education! |
| STA sends about 20 percent of its class to Ivies, 20 percent to top ranked SLACS, and about 20 percent of its class to Chicago and Tulane. |
And so the other 40% goes to these schools based on STA's website Auburn, Babson, BC, BU, BYU, Univ. of British Columbia, Bucknell, Berkeley, UCLA, CMU, Case Western, Catholic, Clemson, Colgate, College of Charleston, Univ of CO, Conn College, Denison, Drew, Fordham, Elon, Georgia Tech, Hillsdale, Indiana U, Kentucky, Lehigh, LSU, Univ of MD, Miami U, Univ. of Miami, UMich, Montgomery College Morehouse, Mt. St. Mary's, The New School, NYU, UNC, Northeastern, Ohio Wesleyan, Penn State, Pitt, Providence, RPI, RI School of Design, RIT, Santa Clara, Shepherd, USC, SMU, Univ. of St. Andrews, St. John's, Syracuse, UT, Trinity, Tufts, Vermont, UVA, Wake Forrest, Whittier, Whitworth, Univ. of WI, College of Wooster, WPT The STA list doesn't look that different from lists at other schools except that it doesn't say how many kids have enrolled at these schools in the past 5 years. According to you, about 80 kids from STA have enrolled at Ivies in the past 5 years (20% of class). If that's true, STA should publish that info. I think people would want to know. I wonder why they don't... |
The above is patently wrong. Ivies last 5 years 78 enrolled. That's only about 19.5% of the student body (assuming 80 in each class). |
Because it’s not any of your business. They publish exact numbers every year in the alumni magazine. |
The colleges that Big 3 students apply to for the most part have seen dozens if not hundreds of applications from Big 3 students over recent years. They know exactly what a 3.6 or 3.9 GPA means at each one, and don't need test scores to normalize the grades. It's the kid from some unknown HS in Missouri applying to Harvard who gets hurt by tough grades because Harvard has no idea what a 3.9 there means. |
