But none of them could pass without McConnell’s approval, and that was the whole problem - Mnuchin was negotiating on behalf of Republicans because McConnell wasn’t willing to do it, because McConnell opposed passing a relief bill.. All of those negotiations were largely for show because McConnell refused to get on board, which means the bill wouldn’t have gotten a vote in the Senate. |
McConnell brought up at least two Covid relief bills in the Senate...one in September and another in October - while Mnuchin was still holding discussions. Democrats blocked both. What's that about McConnell opposing a relief bill again? I'm a moderate Democrat but McConnell is running rings around the Dem sideshow right now - publicly and legislatively.

| Mitch hasn’t offered anything good, but at this point it’s clear that he’s not going to. He has the power, he doesn’t care about doing the right thing, just pass the crappy bill he wants and blame him for the mess that we have to clean up next year. Something. Is better than nothing right now. Really. |

Congress needs to get their shit together. They're literally arguing over what are tantamount to pennies, all for political theater and pissing matches. Jobless claims just went up. It'll be a disaster if unemployment and protections disappear in Jan. I think, however, they will pass something before recess, because neither party wants to be responsible for chaos right before a big GA runoff.
Looks, it's not hard. No bills with pork. Give states money Give employers liability protections Extend unemployment out to April Done. No one gets everything they want. |
I agree with everything you said except the incentive. We literally have 8 days before a government shutdown and as I recall - the last time we were heading into a big elections cliff with both the presidency and congress in play - they did NOTHING. |

How about they pass soemthig. Because people are struggling? The people that elected them. Not because they don’t want to look bad.
I’ve never been more disgusted. |
Yup. Pelosi has done a terrible job with this negotiation. If you've ever taken a negotiating course, you learn that if you become too inflexible the concessions dry up over time. Pelosi is now gonna have to take a deal that's half a big as the $1.8T that was offered before. That just shows Pelosi was playing stupid politics, and now it has backfired. The $1.8T deal have huge money to states, unployment and $1200 checks. Pelosi stupidly rejected it. Now it is even lower. Pelosi is a terrible politician. |
Pelosi came down to the 1.8 months ago from 4. The GOP doesn’t want to pass anything. |
| No, the GOP wants to pass what they want. And they can. Let them, and then blame them for the fall out. Let them own it. |
How is it a good look for Mitch to take things off the table that were on the table without giving anything in return? People will see this for what it is when a mediocre bill passes giving half of what he was willing to do before the election. Election isn’t over, I’m feeling good about georgia. |
The Republicans have been saying for months that the money to states is pork. |
Pretty sure they represent states. |
Not if it permanently provide liability shield for irresponsible employers. |
They can fix it after he loses the majority over it. |
