I don't want to hit you I just want to get where I'm going (just like you!!!!!!!). Simply put the amount of peds and bikes on places like Beach Drive ARE creating a safety hazard. Please exercise some common sense. This isn't Holland.

I don’t even own a bike but as someone who wants to be able to walk around my own damn neighborhood without feeling a constant low level dread of being hurt or killed by an impatient, distracted or aggressive driver.... I could not possibly have less sympathy for your big baby whining about being “inconvenienced”. Suck it up buttercup, they’re legally allowed to be on the road and they don’t care about your precious feelings. Someone choosing to pilot a climate controlled 5000 lb metal tank that has the power to kill everyone outside it on public roads is whining that they’ll get to their destination in 12.5 min instead of 11 min? No one else considers that a huge public crisis, sorry!

You deserve to be hit if you’re walking on the road. Idiot.

Thank you for at least being honest and stating that as a leisure biker you are the absolute embodiment of massive entitlement. you don't even attempt to apologize for it but are actually proud of your assholelry. Kudos to you.

It’s not a hobby. It’s how I get around. It’s transportation.

Then get around on the f$cking bike path.

I sincerely hope the people telling bicyclists to get on a bike path are working really hard to get a connected and protected network of bike arterials throughout the city.

Trust me, if there was a better option we'd be on it. No one likes being around you when you're driving.

Another driver fails to understand what a crosswalk is. The world would be a better place if you could only travel but pogo stick.

Total BS. I drive on Beach Drive and Rock Creek Parkway daily and there are multiple douchebags in their idiotic outfits who think they are just too special for the perfectly good bike path right next to it. I bike a lot as well and when I have to be on the road, and there are 10 cars respectfully trailing along behind me, I move to the side and let them pass. Why is this so difficult?

And, did you ever notice that everyone driving slower than you is an idiot, and everyone driving faster than you is an a$$hole? (George Carlin).

Wow, you're so clever! Hey listen, do you think you could get off the gd road where you are slowing EVERYONE down and putting EVERYONE'S life in danger??

LOL I don't even own a bike. Totally on team car.

Threads like this remind me of why I look forward to the day when self-driving cars become so ubiquitous that normal people aren't permitted to touch the wheel. I'm convinced that driving actively makes people more uncaring and inconsiderate. Drivers hate cyclists because it forces them to be reminded of others' humanity and fragility. You're driving a machine that is capable of great death and destruction; those are thoughts you should have been living with the entire time.

OP, go outside and ride a bike sometime. You'll feel more connected to the world around you, and you'll be healthier. Maybe you'll even realize that you should give as few shits about you getting where you're going 10 seconds faster as the rest of us do.

I just wish that bikers wouldn’t roll past all the cars and go to the head of the line at red lights. We all just crossed over the double yellow to get around the cyclist, then the cyclist weaves past all of us at the light, and we have to pass him again.

DP. Not a biker, but I agree with the sentiment here. Cyclists drive me nuts on thoroughfares, but I understand why they do it: it's often the only option.

I do, however, think that cyclists should more consistently follow the rules of the road. I don't care about bikes rolling through stops when there aren't any other cars around- I mean when they're riding in traffic. There are a nontrivial set of cyclists that are some combination of erratic and oblivious. It scares the hell of out of me to drive around them. If I don't know what you're going to do, I can't stay out of your way.

I wish everyone followed the rules of the road better. It really would be so much more pleasant and safe. That said, car drivers are far more of a hazard to everyone on the road with their rule breaking. All cyclists could suddenly disappear but we'd still have a lot of deaths on the road from drivers. If all the drivers different disappeared we might actually get to vision zero.

You're right, there are an egregious few. But for each of those racer wannabes think about how many regular people are just trying to get from point A to point B safely. Hundreds? Thousands? We far outnumber the jackasses.

People in cars don't realize how inefficient a use of space cars are which is to say you are vastly overestimating how many people are being in-convenienced and how many people are biking.

But drivers really are so stupid that they don't understand average travel times and think somehow their top speed rather than their average speed determines their travel time.

I bike in Rock Creek Park all the time (BTW it is a park and was not created to serve as a route for MD Commuters) and even biking leisurely north of Calvert Street can comfortably keep up with the average speed of cars because there is so much congestion (caused by cars BTW) - I love the jackasses who rage pass me only to have me coast past them a minute later when they are sitting in the traffic queue of single occupancy vehicles at Tilden and Beach Drive waiting at the light because even a single driver wants to make a left turn. And then a few minutes later they rage pass me again only to have me pass them again at the queue where Shoreham Drive merges at which point I pass them never to be caught again.

But we bikers are the ones taking up space and holding up drivers!

You know you're right! Cars should only be on the Beltway. If only we could build a series of arteries or car paths if you will so that cars can get directly to the Beltway and never have to be in your way again.

Apparently the one place drivers feel more secure being an asshole to cyclists than in their giant SUVs is on an anonymous chatboard.
