Cyclists-why do you think it's ok to take up a hobby that will inconvenience numerous people you've never met? What's wrong with the bike trails? Also keep in mind that not only do I have to safely pass you but seven other idiots within the next quarter mile. I can't just jump onto the bike path to get away from you. I don't want to hit you I just want to get where I'm going (just like you!!!!!!!). Simply put the amount of peds and bikes on places like Beach Drive ARE creating a safety hazard. Please exercise some common sense. This isn't Holland.
It’s not a hobby. It’s how I get around. It’s transportation.
Then get around on the f$cking bike path.
I sincerely hope the people telling bicyclists to get on a bike path are working really hard to get a connected and protected network of bike arterials throughout the city. Trust me, if there was a better option we'd be on it. No one likes being around you when you're driving.
Total BS. I drive on Beach Drive and Rock Creek Parkway daily and there are multiple douchebags in their idiotic outfits who think they are just too special for the perfectly good bike path right next to it. I bike a lot as well and when I have to be on the road, and there are 10 cars respectfully trailing along behind me, I move to the side and let them pass. Why is this so difficult?
You're right, there are an egregious few. But for each of those racer wannabes think about how many regular people are just trying to get from point A to point B safely. Hundreds? Thousands? We far outnumber the jackasses.
People in cars don't realize how inefficient a use of space cars are which is to say you are vastly overestimating how many people are being in-convenienced and how many people are biking. But drivers really are so stupid that they don't understand average travel times and think somehow their top speed rather than their average speed determines their travel time. I bike in Rock Creek Park all the time (BTW it is a park and was not created to serve as a route for MD Commuters) and even biking leisurely north of Calvert Street can comfortably keep up with the average speed of cars because there is so much congestion (caused by cars BTW) - I love the jackasses who rage pass me only to have me coast past them a minute later when they are sitting in the traffic queue of single occupancy vehicles at Tilden and Beach Drive waiting at the light because even a single driver wants to make a left turn. And then a few minutes later they rage pass me again only to have me pass them again at the queue where Shoreham Drive merges at which point I pass them never to be caught again. But we bikers are the ones taking up space and holding up drivers!
