Cyclists-why do you think it's ok to take up a hobby that will inconvenience numerous people you've never met? What's wrong with the bike trails? Also keep in mind that not only do I have to safely pass you but seven other idiots within the next quarter mile. I can't just jump onto the bike path to get away from you. I don't want to hit you I just want to get where I'm going (just like you!!!!!!!). Simply put the amount of peds and bikes on places like Beach Drive ARE creating a safety hazard. Please exercise some common sense. This isn't Holland.
It’s not a hobby. It’s how I get around. It’s transportation.
Then get around on the f$cking bike path.
I sincerely hope the people telling bicyclists to get on a bike path are working really hard to get a connected and protected network of bike arterials throughout the city. Trust me, if there was a better option we'd be on it. No one likes being around you when you're driving.
DP. Not a biker, but I agree with the sentiment here. Cyclists drive me nuts on thoroughfares, but I understand why they do it: it's often the only option. I do, however, think that cyclists should more consistently follow the rules of the road. I don't care about bikes rolling through stops when there aren't any other cars around- I mean when they're riding in traffic. There are a nontrivial set of cyclists that are some combination of erratic and oblivious. It scares the hell of out of me to drive around them. If I don't know what you're going to do, I can't stay out of your way.
I wish everyone followed the rules of the road better. It really would be so much more pleasant and safe. That said, car drivers are far more of a hazard to everyone on the road with their rule breaking. All cyclists could suddenly disappear but we'd still have a lot of deaths on the road from drivers. If all the drivers different disappeared we might actually get to vision zero.
