Whereas cyclists are perfectly secure being assholes in person as well on a chat board.

Also keep in mind that not only do I have to safely pass you but seven other idiots within the next quarter mile. I can't just jump onto the bike path to get away from you. I don't want to hit you I just want to get where I'm going (just like you!!!!!!!). Simply put the amount of peds and bikes on places like Beach Drive ARE creating a safety hazard. Please exercise some common sense. This isn't Holland.

It’s not a hobby. It’s how I get around. It’s transportation.

Then get around on the f$cking bike path.

It's not a "bike path" (f$cking or not). It's a shared-use path. A cyclist on the path shares it with: pedestrians, parents pushing kids in strollers, people walking dogs on a leash that often extends over the path, kids on skateboards, joggers wearing earbuds so they can't hear if you are coming up on them. Last time I checked, the bike path adjacent to Beach Drive had a lot of bumps caused by tree roots pushing through. Please try to be a bit more civil, OK? According to signs posted on Beach Drive in MoCo, commercial vehicles are prohibited on Beach Drive. They tend to be a lot wider than ordinary passenger vehicles, although the recent trend toward large SUVs blurs that distinction. That law is never enforced. The guys in trucks need to make a living, and they have to put up with congestion to get to and from their work. Just like the underpaid and overworked Amazon delivery drivers, who park in designated bike lanes in downtown DC because Amazon or FedEx has imposed unrealistic delivery quotas on them. I get it. But Beach Drive was never intended for large commercial vehicles, and bikes lanes in downtown DC are for cyclists.

BTW, I've been cycling for many years and I have never worn Spandex. Never will. OK?

And, did you ever notice that everyone driving slower than you is an idiot, and everyone driving faster than you is an a$$hole? (George Carlin).

Ha ha. This!

I like what you are saying but I'm not sure you are against or cyclists? Anyway are you saying the bike path slows you down? I drive a car and now you know how I feel. I can't just hop off onto the trail or the sidewalk or speed through the intersection and completely disregard traffic signals.

DP. The PP is explaining why people ride their bikes in the road.

Ok well I was just explaining why people drive their cars in the road. The sidewalk is off limits.

I was riding my bike on Beach Drive when a man driving a large delivery truck yelled at me to get on the bike path. Commercial vehicles are prohibited on beach Drive, for safety reasons. I wish Barney Fife were there to make a "Citizen's Arrest"!

I sincerely hope the people telling bicyclists to get on a bike path are working really hard to get a connected and protected network of bike arterials throughout the city.

Trust me, if there was a better option we'd be on it. No one likes being around you when you're driving.

Total BS. I drive on Beach Drive and Rock Creek Parkway daily and there are multiple douchebags in their idiotic outfits who think they are just too special for the perfectly good bike path right next to it. I bike a lot as well and when I have to be on the road, and there are 10 cars respectfully trailing along behind me, I move to the side and let them pass. Why is this so difficult?

Those park roads, particularly Beach drive, were meant for park access. Not daily commutes. Enjoy the park!

The other day on macarthur I saw two teens hit the crosswalk button and wait for the signal. When they got the signal they starting crossing, all the cars stop. A bike a ways back blew thru, nearly hit the teens, and then the BIKER shook his head at the teens! As my husband said, the teens were more responsible than the adult biker. Totally classic and common for bikers around here. They are unsafe entitled a-holes.

Kind of like the most obvious drivers are the ones passing you on the right at stop signs, honking excessively, tailgating, speeding, etc. We don't tend to notice the drivers who behave or the bicyclists who are the same. When I go for a bike ride in my neighborhood, I notice more bicyclists who are riding responsibly.

This. I see very few bikers that blow through stop signs when there is cross traffic. Personally, I often don't stop at stop signs or red lights if it's safer -- if I can see there's no cross traffic, it's actually much better to proceed when I know there won't be any cars overtaking me and turning into my path.

You are way in the wrong here.

You should definitely attempt this. You’ll be famous.

This.

I’ve (and everyone else) have had to pass the same cyclist a half dozen times. We idle along behind them at 11 mph waiting for a chance to pass them safely. We do, and then when sitting at the next red light, the cyclist goes around all the cars waiting at the light, pedals through the red light, and everyone is back behind them again. Rinse and repeat. So 10-15 cars are all reduced to the speed of a single person on a bicycle, instead of doing the posted 30 mph speed limit.

If you can’t see why this would irritate people, then you are a sociopath.

No one has suggested you drive your car anywhere other than the road. Straw man.
