Moms what age did your son surpass you in height?

My second son passed me at 11 - I’m 5’5 and he is now 6’ at 14. My youngest is a steadier grower, it seems. He’s 12 and 5’3”.

My oldest is 99+ on the growth chart and my youngest hovers in the 80% range.

DS1 not until 14.5- I’m just 5’5” but he is a late bloomer. Now 15.5 and 5’9”. DH is 6’0”.

DS2 just turned 13 and is my exact height.

He probably will be! Dad is above average and men are about 5" taller than women on average. In other words, a 5'10" man is about the same percentile as a 5'5" woman. So even if he takes after slightly shorter people in Dad's family, he's still likely to be taller than you. Obviously there's always a chance he'll end up shorter so I would try to not discuss height too much, but he'll most probably be taller.

I'm 5'5" and my husband is 5'6", so while I'm average for a woman (even a bit above! - as long as I don’t go to like Sweden or Bosnia lol) he's like 10th-15th percentile for a man. Obviously I don't care, but he's felt bad about it his whole life. Our son seems to be tracking me and our daughter to be tracking him. Son will be 13 in the summer and is about 5'3"-5'4", so I'm anticipating he'll reach my height in the next year (in general his growth curve has tracked mine*.) Daughter is 8.5, her growth curve tracks ber Dad's. We just had an appointment to check on her growth (had some other concerns so she's been seeing an endocrinologist)... predicted adult height is 5'1", which is my husband's height minus 5". (Also the height of women in his family.)

* I will say, around puberty growth curves may get a bit wonky. Like my son was 50th percentile for years, so that's what I'm basing it off of. He jumped to 80th last year, but I think that's because he's slightly on the earlier end of puberty onset, I don't think he'll stay at 80th, he'll probably stop growing before others do.

12yo DS is 5'7". He passed my mom last winter, and is catching up quickly to me. His feet are bigger than mine, he wears a 9 men's (DH wears a 10). But he's only 90 lbs soaking wet!

Your child is 5'7" and only 90 lbs?!

DS is almost 14 and not even close. I am 5'6", DH is 6', and DS is probably 5'1". His foot has been bigger than mine for about a year, I think.

Sounds exactly like my DS -and DH and I are your same heights. Mine was 5’2” on his 14th birthday, 5’7” on his 15th. Almost 15.5 now and 5’9”. It happens quickly.

When they pass mom’s height early like 10 or 11, generally they will be shorter as adults (early growth spurt and generally stops growing early as well. That was the case with my oldest son, younger one is later to puberty and will probably end up with the taller genes (5’1-5’2 in sixth grade with zero signs of puberty and always has tracked 85th-ish percentile). We have a mix of genes/heights in the family.

Both sons surpassed me at age 12. I’m 5’4” and DH is 5’9”. My 14yo is almost as tall as DH and expect him to surpass DH at age 15.

5'5" and oldest (now 20) was a late bloomer so he was 16 and he now over 6'

Youngest (now 16) was 13

First PP here - yeah, he was. He was growing 4-5" per year at that point and the weight increase just couldn't keep up. He's much closer to the norm on the weight curve now.

Just as he was turning 14 (I'm 5'3").

Or they’re going to be really tall and have always been really tall… or mom is short… this is a silly take, PP.

My first child (daughter) is an adult and is 5'6", and I'm 5'8". Was hoping my last child, another daughter, wouldn't be taller than me, but alas, at age 14 she is 5'9"!!! So at 5'8" I'm almost the shortest in the family surprisingly.

I mean it’s pretty general knowledge in pediatrics that earlier puberty generally equates to shorter adult height, so I wouldn’t say it’s a “silly take.” Of course there are always going to be exceptions.

I guess you missed my point that a son surpassing his mother in height at a relatively young age is not necessarily a reliable indicator of early puberty.

DS#1 was just shy of my height (5'9") on his 13th birthday. Now at 14.5 he has two inches on me but I don't think has much growing left.

DS#2 I'm guessing will around age 14. He started his growth spurt a little later and is 5'5 at 12 3/4.
