Would you support a hard shutdown option for two to four weeks to crush the virus?

And I’d never support this...we were told two weeks the first time and it turned into 3 months.

The point is we never really closed down.

You can NEVER "really close down." Home repair contractors, utility repair, Fire/EMS, health/medical facility, law enforcement, etc still need to continue. Covid was not being transmitted in grocery stores. Maybe among workers, but not to customers. There are essential businesses that people need that will never completely shut down. It's not possible.

Does it come with a money-back guarantee?

It’s behind a paywall so I can’t read the three premises. But if we do this hard lockdown, do we then all just emerge two to four months later and it’s gone? We fully reopen, school starts in person, we’re back in the offices, in restaurants? Or do we do another “careful” reopening?

Wouldn’t work now would’ve worked 3 months ago

No. Not in this country.

I’m afraid the gun nuts would break into my house for toilet paper and alcohol.

I agree that we need masks. To make people wear masks, a hard shut down, where grocery store is open from 8 am till noon, with nothing else open will make people take it seriously.
Put police of every corner too. Only then will morons start wearing masks. This pandemic so easy to crush, the fact that we refuse to do so due to our own stupidity is telling, Once people can't leave the house for 2 weeks, they will accept masks. But, of course that means having POTUS that will enforce masks in the whole country. So, why talk about things that are impossible?

It will work, we might need a longer shut down though to make it work.
Anonymous
Yes. I did a hard shutdown. Dh and I didn’t even get food. Obviously didn’t help things.

Really, but why does everyone say that our problem is we never really locked down like China and Italy did? Which is it?

Because people don’t understand that Wuhan and N. Italy both locked down AFTER it had already infected most of their populations. That’s why the lockdown appeared to “work.” Compare to Sweden which also peaked and has now come all the way down also with no lockdown.

Plus, China is full of shit...can’t trust their numbers or what went on there. Makes no sense that they had unchecked spread in Wuhan for months and months...spread that left their country to infect the rest of the world, but, that the rest of China was relatively unaffected.

Really? Unchecked for months and months? You do realize if a country with that population shuts down millions of people, they are worried? You realize they have masks mandatory?

Masks have very limited effectiveness, especially in outdoor spaces. There was a lot of talk about this. They're really meant as a reminder to others to be careful rather than to stop someone from getting the virus. The vast majority of virus transmission is through family units or close working environments or crowded spaces like bars. Because you need a high enough viral dosage over a prolonged period (usually 10-15 minutes).

Someone walking down the street without a mask isn't giving you the virus.

No, I don't. I dislike it. But, we are killing people. Fact is, stupid people need dictatorships in situations like this. Stupidity kills. We are stupid. Every country is ruled by force, democracy just calls it choosing to have rules and the police to enforce it. How are we to open schools, when people can't even wear masks? What we are seeing is that people think science is fake, virus is fake, and are killing people with their actions. Is that liberty to you?

Are you for real? You literary posted that spread is in bars, to go on to say that masks spread in closed spaces and masks don't help? Masks do help. Two hairdressers that had it in Texas worked with masks and did not spread it to a single customer, and they had over 100 customers. Stop being stupid. Don't go to a bar and there will be no family spread! Don't eat in closed restaurants. JC. People are so stupid.

4 hours of grocery store...sure, either the stores will be packed OR they limit the amount of people that come in and there are riots because people can’t get food.
