Masks Close the bars Close the indoor dining Curfews to cut down on house parties More testing capacity More contact tracing If we did all this we could open schools nationwide by the end of September. But no. Let's keep spinning our wheels. |
Ok, no cops. Italian Mayors instead. |
We have many great mayors in this country. Sometimes stupid governors make their jobs difficult. |
Absolutely. Did they shut Wuhan down for 75 days and almost kicked it completely? |
1000 percent yes. But it will never happen here. |

Won’t work...when it’s over, numbers will just go up again.
And I’d never support this...we were told two weeks the first time and it turned into 3 months. |
Why? We still have tons of people who will claim it’s still unsafe to go out. Our numbers are already low. |
Yes yes yes yes YES
I would support a 3 month (90 day) complete shutdown. Drone delivery of food rations, do it all winter. January 21-April 21. Crush this thing. A year from now I want concerts, parties, and hugs. And why winter? Because Biden will be president. I do not believe the Trump administration would orchestrate something like this nor would I trust them to carry it out effectively. Mask mandate from now until we have an adult in the White House, then get down to serious business. |
It didn’t work because it was never a serious lockdown. You still had people messing around. Then by week 3 you had the reopen protesters. |
False premise. It wouldn't work. Even places that are small and isolated that supposedly "eliminated" the virus still have some cases (see, e.g., New Zealand), New Zealand is an island, so closing their borders is easy; they'll be hit harder, if anything, the moment they reopen their borders. They've already gotten dozens of cases from the few people they've let into the country from outside.
Hong Kong supposedly had eliminated the virus in June, and now they're locking back down with fears of uncontrolled spread. https://news.yahoo.com/hong-kong-leader-says-coronavirus-critical-100-cases-085636893.html But the city had impressive success in tackling the disease, all but ending local transmissions by late June. However, in the last two weeks, infections have spiked once more and doctors fear the new outbreak is now spreading undetected in the densely packed territory of 7.5 million people. On Sunday chief executive Carrie Lam said more than 500 infections had been confirmed in the last fortnight alone, nearly a third since the outbreak began. |
No. We did this before (someone is going to rush in and say it "wasn't the same", but it was close as we are going to get), and it doesn't "crush the virus". Just delays or pauses it for a bit. |
Yes of course. |
Yes, we need a reset to lower numbers. |
+1. It won’t work. |
