Why can't we accept that this is a part of our reality right now? Why do we feel the need to funnel inordinate amounts of resources - while simultaneously making it so that our resource pool (i.e. the economy) dwindles - into "fighting" something that will likely be with us for a while?

Ww just need to adapt. If you are at risk, mitigate your risk. If you aren't "at risk", practice good hygiene and health.

Also, if you are at risk because of co-morbidities that you created by too many trips to McDonalds and too many Big Gulps, then either get your lifestyle under control or take your chances.

My understanding is that they opened up to save the tourism industry, and the yahoos came from abroad and got drunk and behaved like they always do. Then the numbers started going up again.

Thats kind of the thing. Once you do reopen, its hard to control unless you are permanently New Zealand and just close your borders forever.

And “yahoos from abroad” is really yahoos-from-within-Spain and other EU countries. They’ve recently opened up to some non-EU countries, but certainly not the US.

Well no country has opened schools with these type of numbers. Every other pandemic in modern times have had a large spike with the opening of schools.

Agree to all but the inter-state travel thing is so obvious to me and seems like one of the most important things right now. I am so frustrated and angry with people who went on vacations (to places like Florida!) this summer. I am a little more understanding of those who just drove to visit extended family in other states (though we have not done this even though it has been hard, specifically because we are worried it is irresponsible toward both our community and the community we would be visiting). I do not understand why we haven't seen more aggressive travel advisories and quarantines. It's obvious from what we know that interstate travel has been a huge driver of all of the major outbreaks in the US. And yet people are still doing tons of non-essential travel. It's insane.
