Why is Maryland "Trending Poorly" on covidexit?

Maryland has consistently been in the red (even after they revised the criteria) for about the past week. Not even yellow.

A key criterion is new cases per million per day. We were at around 50 but today are at 90. When we get to 100, that's enough to put us on some state's quarantine lists!!

I am really concerned. Are we going to have to go back to Phase 1?

Five days later we are now up to 112 new cases per million per day

YES! Definitely opened too soon and never did squat to enforce the mask rule. Just wants to make his Ocean City buds happy and promote his book.

Yes, we should have had a full shut down sooner, and we opened too quickly. It's fine to have take out at restaurants, but no indoor venues should be open right now. Certainly not bars. It's great he's for small business, but if this pandemic is not in control, and schools can't open safely, that will hurt all of us a lot more.

C’mon Larry, time to stop your publicity tour and actually be a leader. Truly enforce the mask wearing and stop passing all responsibility down to the counties. Shut down the bars, gyms, and indoor dining now or else you’re going to have to shut everything down in a few weeks anyway and colleges and schools will not be reopening anytime soon.

He wants to be elected president in 2024. It's going to his head.

If he wants to be elected president, he needs to do a better job of fighting this pandemic first rather than taking a victory lap in the midst of a crisis.

Went to St Michael’s/Easton yesterday....LOTS of people eating/drinking inside restaurants/bars with no masks. Cooks in the kitchen with no masks. Shoppers on the street with no masks. C’mon people.

Maryland’s metrics are worse than VA today on covidexit

And worse than most other countries. Maryland had 925 new cases yesterday. For perspective, the entire country of Italy only had 198 new cases yesterday.

And yet we're still encouraging tourists to come visit MD?!

I did not believe you but wow, you are correct!

I am so mad. Everyone is focused on test positivity only. But we are just testing more and more to try to keep that positivity below 5% meanwhile missing the fact that our cases are rising so quickly!

I guess we will run out of testing capacity soon at this rate.... then we will be back to where we were in March with no way to really know how many cases we have and no way to contact trace and quarantine.

Maryland's population 6 million. Italy 60 million!

Maryland 154 new cases per million per day
Italy: 3 new cases per million per day

3 new cases per million per day!! Don't tell me it can't be done.

And it doesn’t help that we’re seeing people traveling up to hotspots, coming back to MD, and not quarantining.

Just saw another thread on here where the OP has 8 or 9 coworkers who went to CA for a week and are coming straight back into the office. Stuff like this pisses me off. Hogan needs to make it mandatory to quarantine when traveling to these states and impose a mask fine. If not we’re all screwed.

We need a quarantine for Worcester County.

Yup, just let it burn through your population uncontrolled and voila! a few months later, you are golden. See also, NYC.

With the 900 new cases in the last 24 hours...do you think we’ll end up back at phase 1 soon-ish?

COVID swept Italy, remember? Most people got it early on, remember? They have quasi herd immunity.

Maryland implemented restrictions to flatten the curve.

Not apples to apples, pp.

Gotta admit that I have been wondering about this possibility, too.
