And why the heck are they still running that "open Maryland" tourist ad? Hogan needs to act NOW to keep our numbers from climbing out of control. He's too concerned with making the Ocean City businesses happy and is going to screw up things for the rest of the state.

It’s always about ocean city for him. Always.

This doesn't seem good to me. Could someone tell me what we are doing in MD to make the trend go in the reverse direction?

Seriously? You opened up casinos, indoor dining, gyms, and bars. Pretty much every state that opened up the bars is seeing cases rise. It's not actually rocket science. Anytime you have an indoor space where a group of people is spending more than 15 minutes without masks -- so any place where people are eating and drinking -- you could have substantial transmission.

Yeah...

It was a rhetorical question, actually.

What do we need to do to get it going in the other direction?

The "Red Zone" states have 100 new cases per day per million people, and over 10% test positivity.

We are just about there for new cases, and while positivity now is 5.4% it is increasing as well.

Protesters. That’s why.

You can’t have hundreds of people together in a riotous, violent mob and not expect transmissions. It’s the perfect environment for it.

Not too mention 5 straight weeks of daily protests in our area.

Think THAT might have a little more to do with the numbers than the people who went to watch fireworks, hmmmm?

Depends on how much masking was going on at each.

+1000000

In NYC, where their positivity rate is much lower they still won't be opening indoor restaurants, bars or malls. They're being smart and Hogan is stupidly gambling with the cases here to try to make some businesses happy. It might help in the short term but will ultimately cause more $ problems for all businesses if we have to shut down. MD needs to backtrack just a bit now to prevent us from having to shut down everything in a few weeks.

No, that website is wrong on positivity.

MD’s positivity rate is 4.43%. https://coronavirus.maryland.gov/

I don’t like that website because I’ve found multiple discrepancies between what they have and what the state is reporting.

Wear masks when outside your home.

Fixed.

It really is NOT rocket science

Yup. I think Hogan should keep outside dining, as a lifeline to restaurants, but nix indoor dining and bars.

This.

Rates are really rising for people 35and under in MD since indoor dining, bars and gyms have opened up. Even in MoCo I see too many younger people not wearing masks inside or in crowded outside environments.

First PP, are you the one who could not get any research work done at home, so you went down to Georgia to try and get some work done?

If so, then just stay there as long as you can and wait it out being as safe as possible. But when you do come back, do as the other PP said, quarantine at home for 14 days, and order your groceries via Instacart so you can stay indoors for 14 days.

We had to travel to Cincinnati last month for my spouse to see some specialists for a long-term genetic condition. We were as careful as possible and when we got back, we holed up in the house for 14 days and instacarted groceries. I did take walks in the neighborhood, but I strictly avoided people, crossing the street to avoid coming in contact with anyone in case I was asymptomatic. We made it 14 days with no illness and then resumed our normal cautious lives.

Possibly, but the protests have been going on since late May/early June — and our numbers looked good and were improving. This dive is pretty recent and coincides in time with what one would expect if the July 4th weekend was a significant factor. Obviously we don’t know what people were doing re: masks and social distancing and how or if that has changed. We do know that more people have engaged in group activities : sometimes inside and sometimes without masks since the holiday weekend.

The daily ones I saw with teens - while only about 75-100 and no masks. Not one.
