Eh. I don't like to tear it down, and I don't sit there waiting to take a crack at rich (not "rich") people. There are two things that bug me. No, actually, three things. 1. People at Churchill who don't recognize their affluence compared to the rest of the county and the region. 2. People at Churchill who run down other kids at other schools. 3. People at Churchill who don't know anything about the history of Scotland. |
Incidents happen at a lot of schools but it happens more at Churchill, just own it. You segregated yourself and your family ... stop acting like you didn't. |
Right here. A bit overpriced. Amazing neighborhood. https://www.redfin.com/MD/Rockville/12413-Beall-Spring-Rd-20854/home/10612140?utm_source=google&utm_medium=ppc&utm_campaign=1021578&utm_term=kwd-845751835175&utm_content=438961599343 |
Re: 2 -- have their been a rash of hit and runs with Churchill families attacking people from other schools? |
On DCUM? Always. In real life? Not so directly. But I, personally, have heard "We live in the Churchill cluster because we wanted the best schools for our children" more than once. |
But...the 800K house is equal to a 500K house in other DC suburbs in terms of just the house itself. The square footage, the finish, number of bedrooms and bathrooms etc. We live in the other DMV suburbs in a now 500K house (bought for <300K), which is a 750K - 900K home now in any W school area. Is it worth even 500K? No, that is just price inflation. In any part of the country it is a nice house which a builder can sell for 300K and still make a profit. If we would have bought in a W-school then everything in our lives financially would have been a stretch. Going to a highly rated school does not take away the need for private coaching and tutors, which is basically about 1k in this area. I think there are no "laid back" kids in Churchill but there are families who cannot keep up with the super-achievers who are spending money for more enrichment. |
| I am assuming that for the next 2 years, schools will be primarily online. I cannot imagine buying any house for the school now. Sorry. |

I'm not the OP, but from these posts, I'm thinking much more highly about Churchill parents than the other parents who have posted their comments and who have absolutely no experience with the school. The two posters who shared their actual experiences about the school were much more thoughtful and informative and based in fact than any of the other posters who actually have no experience at the school. |
Seriously overpriced...and this is not exactly close in Potomac. |
And I would add, the price will be justified with the acreage....which is exactly what I meant by you will not find anything at that price point with an acre of land. A nicer home on that lot would command significantly more. |
What? We live in a house that's way over $2m (think closer to 5) and my children attended public and private. All of my neighbors prioritize education. We can all easily afford private school, tutors, cars, and vacations. By the way our Public school way better than even the big three privates.Particularly STEM, which for my family was essential. Hello Ivy league for my public kids..... if you care about that sort of thing. I on the other hand do not. My most successful child not IVY league. |

OP Churchill is fine. Lot's of kids, all types of groups. HS is HS just like we were in school, but on steroids because of social media. Cabin John and Hoover feed to Churchill both are similar and again it's MS.
I found MS for my children to be more of an issue with the snobbiness and parents were crazy. |

Sometimes when I see what people write about Potomac, I wonder if they have ever been here or just watch tv about rich people. It is not Beverly Hills. There are women who run around in designer things with hair done and mess up their faces but it is not the great majority of people. You would consider us rich but besides living here we don't live as described. We exercise on the canal with no make up. We go to local places to eat like Gregorios Pizza or Renatos. Yes we have nice cars but our kids share an older SUV. It certainly depends on your group but my daughter has some friends who are pretty fancy and some who are totally regular. All the parents get along. We are friendly but not regular friends but we are in contact when there are events and I could count on any of them in an emergency. There is a large contingent of people who won't indulge any of that Real Housewives showboating and bickering nonsense.
Churchill has a fantastic PTA president who is deeply committed to social justice and a huge volunteer contingent in every part of the school. Yes there are kids who drink and do drugs but there are a lot of kids who do not. Is it the best school? No, as others have said, good and bad teachers. I am not thrilled about the new Principal, but the important part is that my daughter likes her school and most of her teachers. I don't have to go there, she does. Overall I have found Potomac to be one of the most lovely, supportive and community minded places I have ever lived. Just because people are rich does not mean they are jerks. I am friends with some of the uber rich here and guess what, they throw great parties! The cool ones amongst them don't care if you have been to Zermatt or not - the uncool ones do and they would be jerks too if they weren't rich. I have seen this community pull together to support so many families in so many different ways in times of need. It is a real place filled with real people. Also you might see Ted Koppel in the Giant once in awhile. |
| Can't do this now, but go drive by the student parking lot when full class is in session. You will see what your future looks like. |
