but that 800K house is very comparable to a 500K house in other dc suburbs or a 200K house in middle America.
This is why people say "don't send your kids to Churchill" and I am not really going to be able to explain it to you. But you just don't get it if you think living in a $800K house is the same as a $500K house in Gaithersburg or a $200K house in Tulsa Oklahoma. ... and then you pass that same attitude and worse to your children.
But...the 800K house is equal to a 500K house in other DC suburbs in terms of just the house itself. The square footage, the finish, number of bedrooms and bathrooms etc. We live in the other DMV suburbs in a now 500K house (bought for <300K), which is a 750K - 900K home now in any W school area. Is it worth even 500K? No, that is just price inflation. In any part of the country it is a nice house which a builder can sell for 300K and still make a profit. If we would have bought in a W-school then everything in our lives financially would have been a stretch. Going to a highly rated school does not take away the need for private coaching and tutors, which is basically about 1k in this area. I think there are no "laid back" kids in Churchill but there are families who cannot keep up with the super-achievers who are spending money for more enrichment.
