I hope a Kraken eats your boat.

But super awesome for your that you don't have these worries, but maybe keep that to yourself because you sound like a jackass.

Keeping telling yourself this. We actually don't have a lot of money. It's a pontoon we got for $4 grand. And we work a lot. No trust fund babies here.

But our mindset will not be one of getting the least out of the summer, like so many moms of the DCUM.

Life is Beautiful!

I do appreciate that if you work too much, you probably feel you have to make it up to your children for being an absentee parent by giving them things. Try to enjoy it op!

Dumb post, likely by a SAHMoron. OP posted about activities, not things.

I hate summer in this area and we were basically planning to survive at the public pool. If it's not open I seriously don't know what we'll do, what with not having a boat or lake access or tolerance for being outside in 95 degree weather. It's been a glorious spring even though all we've been able to do is go on walks around the neighborhood, but summer is always such a slog.

+1

My kids and I will have a fabulous summer breeding a Kraken and releasing it into the wild!

I think it’s a spin off another post titled “committed to staying at home this summer.”

As a rational person in the middle of your two perspectives I found both to be obnoxious and attention seeking.

Nope. Doesn't take much money to have a small used boat and used kayaks.

That’s good because you clearly aren’t teleworking 40+ hours a week with that schedule.

It's not a pontoon boat, it's kraken bait!

What is so offensive about trying to give your children the best summer possible in difficult times?

I take points off for tone, but I honestly do not see what is wrong with the majority of the OP's post. Very little of those activities would present any risk to anyone and are pretty consistent with state guidelines.

--Get our boat in the water. Swim, sunbathe, tow the inner tube around the lake - Seems ok - how will they be a risk to others by being in their own boat?

--Go kayaking with friends - also fine. Friends ostensibly drive separately and have their own kayak.

--Play basketball, tennis, bocce, volleyball, horseshoes with close friends, once the stay home order is lifted in our state - most of this seems ok except basketball due to the close contact. You'd have to use extra caution sanitizing hands bc a lot of people would be touching it the same ball/horseshoes etc. Tennis seems pretty low risk, just use a fresh ball between serves.

--Have outdoor social distanced bbqs - not much different than what people do now, gathering in the yard but staying apart.

--Go camping at private campgrounds where they offer a lot of fun activities and ability to be outdoors with nature - seems ok except what will you do about bathrooms?

--Find small hotels that are open, with open swimming pools. Seems risky.

The tone of the post is a little off putting, but we plan to do similar.

We bought a little baby pool for the patio, some water guns for the kids. We'll take our canoes out on the nearby lake, backyard bbqs with just those in our house.

Maybe we will get to go to my sister's place at the beach in August for a week. Or camping in Shenandoah.

Otherwise, same old song and dance here. Teleworking, trying to make sure the kids get outside, taking walks
