Keeping telling yourself this. We actually don't have a lot of money. It's a pontoon we got for $4 grand. And we work a lot. No trust fund babies here.

But our mindset will not be one of getting the least out of the summer, like so many moms of the DCUM.

Life is Beautiful!

While I understand the sentiment please try to understand that many people have lost jobs or are faced with immune compromised family members. Some are forced to work extremely long hours or odd hours from home so they can watch their children during the day. Whether you know it or not, you are clearly one of the privileged elite. Try to broaden your horizons and recognize that this pandemic is not one long summer break for most of us.

Oh my god, you guys are gross. OP, I support you. I'd love to do all those things too!!

Drive ins opening this weekend!

My kids are thrilled. This is the first tine they will be out doing something that feels typical and fun.

I really don't even care what is playing!

We bought a little baby pool for the patio, some water guns for the kids. We'll take our canoes out on the nearby lake, backyard bbqs with just those in our house.

Maybe we will get to go to my sister's place at the beach in August for a week. Or camping in Shenandoah.

Otherwise, same old song and dance here. Teleworking, trying to make sure the kids get outside, taking walks

+1

Lots of outdoor fun planned this summer!

I hate heat and humidity, so any summer where I can't escape to alpine terrain is wasted.

I will try to make the best of it by staying indoors with the A/C on.

Cringe-worthy!

I actually agree with your underlying premise, OP -- that it makes sense to think about what we can safely do in order to make the best out of a bad situation. But your post is truly cringeworthy, smug and tone-deaf.

pretty funny, given all the wealth of the DCUM.

We make about 80 grand a year.

Point is, even with that meager amount, our mindset is one of making a fun summer for our kids.

Not a locked down, fearful, don't leave the house one.

There's a lot you can do in the great outdoors if you let go of the tunnelvision of fear.

So, no one else is doing a fun summer for their kid?

We are. Good for you. The fear and paranoia are out of control. You don't sound wealthy and tone deaf. People hear just say that to everyone that isn't locked in their house and clorox wiping their delivered groceries.

We will not just "stay home," and squander the beautiful weather.

Instead, we'll:

--Get our boat in the water. Swim, sunbathe, tow the inner tube around the lake!!

--Go kayaking with friends

--Play basketball, tennis, bocce, volleyball, horseshoes with close friends, once the stay home order is lifted in our state.

--Have outdoor social distanced bbqs

--Go camping at private campgrounds where they offer a lot of fun activities and ability to be outdoors with nature

--Find small hotels that are open, with open swimming pools.

The risks in outdoor activities is proven to be small. So we will enjoy the great outdoors in 2020.

Can I be your friend?

OP - Your summer sounds really good with minimal risks. The people saying they are going to stay in their yards with a baby pool for the summer are being cautious to a fault. I wish I had a boat (and wow do I wish I had a POOL) but we are considering somewhat similar activities.... getting to the beach when we can, possibly renting an AirBNB with a pool for a week.

OP reminds me of David Geffin’s Instagram covid post.

Really hoping covid-19 cleans up the human gene pool after all this.

Oh yes, a 30 year old pontoon boat is EXACTLY like that!

Too bad you are so unimaginative you can't think of some fun ways to treat your kids this summer.

Where? I’d love to go to a drive-in movie and I’ve been looking for one in the area.

OP just checking in. How is your summer playing out?

We are heading to a resort next weekend in a rural area for a change of scenery for hiking and exploring. We have been swimming a lot, seeing close friends and working more around the house than I thought we would.

We are repainting the kids' rooms and are letting them design them. That has been a lot of fun, you can do a lot with paint. We are mainly just repurposing other furniture and being creative so we don't have to spend much. We are also setting up a DL area that mimics a classroom although at this point our schools will be hybrid.

Museums have opened up here so we have a plan to hit several, including history museums.
What did you find to do this summer?
