Keeping telling yourself this. We actually don't have a lot of money. It's a pontoon we got for $4 grand. And we work a lot. No trust fund babies here.

But our mindset will not be one of getting the least out of the summer, like so many moms of the DCUM.

I actually agree with your underlying premise, OP -- that it makes sense to think about what we can safely do in order to make the best out of a bad situation. But your post is truly cringeworthy, smug and tone-deaf.

pretty funny, given all the wealth of the DCUM.

We make about 80 grand a year.

Point is, even with that meager amount, our mindset is one of making a fun summer for our kids.

Not a locked down, fearful, don't leave the house one.

There's a lot you can do in the great outdoors if you let go of the tunnelvision of fear.

So, no one else is doing a fun summer for their kid?

Yep, no fun here. I’m just going to watch CNN and worry. And also ruin my child’s summer.

I bought a water table for the back yard.

I liked the premise of your post, OP. These folks are just scared and projecting, wishing they weren't such ninnies and could life like you are planning. None of what you proposed is flying in the face of precaution, either. If only my teenagers wouldn't completely revolt if I proposed camping! Go for it and I hope you and your family have a memorable and healthy outdoor summer!

We just cancelled our two week vacation to two National Parks. The Parks each sent out a notice that the Lodges, restaurants, and stores in them are going to be closed. They are hiring 1/3 of the normal staff because the seasonal staff live in dormitories at the Park. We are planning on swapping out for renting a house on the river for a week. we can go and chill in the river, do some kayaking, and swim while being isolated. We will go to the pool if it is open. We will probably allow for play dates with families that we trust.

But I think that people who think that they can have a "normal" summer are in for a surprise. A good number of places are not going to be open. Partially because of social distancing issues but partially because many places hire foreign workers and that might not be possible. The places that are going to be open will not be at the same capacity. So pools are probably going to limit the number of people in the poll area, water parks are going to limit numbers, parks are going to restrict number.

There are going to be spikes in the number of cases. Things are not going to go smoothly. And if you want to take those extra risks so that your kids can have a normal summer, then good for you. We will find ways to have a good summer but it is not going to be what we planned for.

I was planning on tying my kids to the couch and making them watch CNN on a loop 24/7. /s

Get real, OP. A lot of us are planning to do whatever outdoor activities are deemed safe by our local public health officials, while paying attention to the number of cases/hospitalizations/deaths in our communities. You, on the other hand, have already decided which activities you will do regardless of what the actual recommendations are. Because you are special and the rules don't apply to you.

Totally tone deaf OP

We’re going to have a great summer too, OP. Lots of campfires, building tree house, family cookouts and togetherness. But we will be home because many things will be closed and I’ll be in money saving mode.

This is the big issue with travel - public bathrooms.

Latrines or portapotties aren’t as big of an issue though since there isn’t a flush.

Anonymous wrote:So you are planning to essentially not take any precautions. And be on your boat.

Good plan, op. Everyone can do this.

LOL exactly. How novel - why aren't we all just towing our inner tubes around? Problem solved!

Ok we get it, you need the Best Mom prize. Here you go, here is your trophy. Feel better now that you have your public validation?

OP Yuck. Yay for your. Go spread that crap and be the moron that you are. Great lesson for your kids.

+1. Yes, it was the tone more than the content that was offputting.
