Committed to getting out for a fabulous summer for my kids!

One more great thing to add to the list: Drive ins are opening up in my area!

This sounds great, actually.

Well, that’s a first. There is no published health research data that proves Covid can be transmitted out side. I am a nurse and can’t read this nonsense. I have many questions about the person who caught Covid while socially distancing outside party.

GMAFB. It sucks for everyone.

Doesn't have to. Some people are choosing to make it as hard as possible. Wallowing in the misery, practically.

It's a global pandemic that has killed 85,000 Americans in less than 3 months. It IS hard. Trying to give my kids the BEST SUMMER EVER is pretty low on my list of priorities. We generally have a pretty great and easy life, so we are trying to take the long view and teach them something about shared sacrifice and different priorities.

We have a pool so my kid could go swimming every day!

But he probably will just want to play on Steam.

Lol "it's been proven that" *anything* is so funny to me. It's a novel virus. We know VERY little still, and even less of it "proven."

We will not just "stay home," and squander the beautiful weather.

Instead, we'll:

--Get our boat in the water. Swim, sunbathe, tow the inner tube around the lake!!

--Go kayaking with friends

--Play basketball, tennis, bocce, volleyball, horseshoes with close friends, once the stay home order is lifted in our state.

--Have outdoor social distanced bbqs

--Go camping at private campgrounds where they offer a lot of fun activities and ability to be outdoors with nature

--Find small hotels that are open, with open swimming pools.

The risks in outdoor activities is proven to be small. So we will enjoy the great outdoors in 2020.

I’m with you op, quite funny that the people who sanctimoniously recounted how they were going to have the delivery men running around for them all summer with their kids locked inside are taking offense to this thread.

I expect phase 2 will start in mid June. At that point, hoping kids can resume day camps and sports.

With beaches already opening, hoping to get two weeks at the beach. Still hopeful that our small private swim club is open for at least part of the summer.

Looking forward to returning to restaurants in second half of summer as well.

OP here. Thanks. I hope your pool is open!

It is so amazing to me that people are so meanspirited. It shows what their mindset is. Even the swipe at small hotels with a pool! Meanwhile, people talking about European vacations. Our used kayaks and old pontoon boat aren't fancy. My teens have sworn off them in the past year -- but it's all looking more appealing to them now. We are just trying to look at things with a glass half-full viewpoint.

Really? You are shocked people are being “mean spirited” about your post? I mean, it was clearly intended to communicate how much better you are going to do summer this year than other people. You actually said that later. You can disagree with people but I don’t think you get to feign shock at the negative responses. You meant to incite them.

Yes god forbid you make you kids' happiness a priority.

Silly me! I thought people would chime in with ways they were going to mske their kids summer fun.

Good plan, op. Everyone can do this.

No, we will take plenty of precautions. But we won't keep our kids locked away, screwing over their summer for our own paranoia.

Funny, with the announcement of a COvId related illness killing children, I’d rather my kids be alive. It’s not paranoia, OP. It’s a fast mutating virus.

And why do you need all that crap to give your kids a great summer?

OP who cares! This post is pointless

Anonymous wrote:Isn't that nice for you. Most people don't have boats and access to a lake and maybe not have incomes to pay for "small hotels with pools." Heck, most of us have to, you know, WORK to put food on the table.

But super awesome for your that you don't have these worries, but maybe keep that to yourself because you sound like a jackass.

Keeping telling yourself this. We actually don't have a lot of money. It's a pontoon we got for $4 grand. And we work a lot. No trust fund babies here.

But our mindset will not be one of getting the least out of the summer, like so many moms of the DCUM.

Life is Beautiful!

I do appreciate that if you work too much, you probably feel you have to make it up to your children for being an absentee parent by giving them things. Try to enjoy it op!

Great idea unless you're one of the unemployed or someone with a 25% paycut.
