Yeah, I think they're crying like a baby because it's very competitive! So, just STFU! |
| Haha the splain ing mom so off. But thanks for momsplaining for us. Open your eyes. |
Very thoughtful response

It’s not healthy. Not from psychological point of view. I understand that you came from dog eat dog type of background but there is no reason to create cut throat culture for our kids. It’s not a good outcome. |

Prejudices are alive and well, and never pleasant, OP. Just steer clear of jealous, insecure people. |
There's always "cut throat culture" practiced somewhere just that you are more aware of it now. Do you think rich people were not extra schooling their kids back in the 50s? Your parents/grandparents were just not even aware of it. Jews were doing the same thing before Asians showed up. I recall coming here in the 90s and a lot of the spelling bee/geography bee winners would be Jewish kids. It was not a big deal because they looked white (are white I suppose). Is it big deal now because it's Asians doing it? Not justifying what you describe as "cut throat culture" at all. Not everyone practices that. I have 2 kids - one at TJ and the other not- only because I know where each will thrive best and support/encourage their journey accordingly. Sure some folks obsess about TJ and want their kids to get in by any means but that's their prerogative. What I take exception to is people assuming something is wrong at TJ because it has a lot of Asians. If this was 30 years ago and TJ was filled with nerdy white kids no one would be complaining. You make a lot of claims "not healthy from a psychological point of view", "not a good outcome" - Can you quantify any of that? Any research to back it up? More TJ kids jumping off bridges relative to non-TJ kids, more doing drugs? I don't think so.. Again, if someone can't keep up, they don't have to. Smart kids will survive wherever they go. We'll worry about our kids' psychological health, which BTW is just fine. |
| FYI, all white people aren't turned off by TJ for this reason. My 6th grader DS plans to apply, and the thought of too many Asians never even crossed our minds. |
I hope you practice this with brown and black people. |
I don't think most of it has to do with racism. I think people don't apply because of the cutthroat nature of the school environment. All the kids are super bright and to stand out it turns into an arms race. I think there are many families who don't want their kids in that environment and think their kid can get to the same place taking all the STEM classes at the base school and being a stand out. Each family makes choices based on what they view as important. People value different things. |
I agree that TJ doesn't need to play that roll, but the lack of diversity is why some chose not to go, not jealousy. |
I agree. This is what I hear from most of the non-asian people. For them going to TJ isnt that important. First they dont think its good for their kids to work so hard at this early stage of their lives. Plus they think they can achieve same thing by going to base school. |
Then stamp out globalism, reduce immigration and support nationalist politicans. Somehow I don't think you're going to support those policies and as such, more people like me will immigrate here. |
|
How do you think we ended up with Trump? My guess is that he’ll be re-elected, whether you or I vote for him or not. Immigration is a huge issue with his supporters. |
Yes, everyone who doesn't want their kid in the cutthroat TJ environment are all jealous and insecure
