Why don't people want to go to tj just because there are "too many" asians?

It shows that people are just being politically correct, but behind closed doors they are really racist and see asians as undesirable for whatever preconceived notions they might have. I wish we could just see people for who they are and not their race.

OP -- these people are doing you a favor by not going to TJ. Do you really want your kids around people like this?

OP here. I'm actually a student, not parent. It's not that I want to go to school with racists, it's just that I know of people who aren't applying or maybe not accepting an offer because of racist reasons, and it just makes me so sad that they're thinking that way and that their families probably think that way, and probably a lot of other people too. I like this blog because it's anonymous so people can say what they really feel without being PC, but it hurts nevertheless. I just hope I can get people to see things from another perspective.

I don't think most of it has to do with racism. I think people don't apply because of the cutthroat nature of the school environment. All the kids are super bright and to stand out it turns into an arms race. I think there are many families who don't want their kids in that environment and think their kid can get to the same place taking all the STEM classes at the base school and being a stand out. Each family makes choices based on what they view as important. People value different things.

I’m an Asian parent. If my daughter decides at some point that she wants to attend TJ, that’s ALL on her. Obviously, it has nothing to do with racism, but on how I feel about what is healthy and helpful in the long run. Our base HS is decent, and I know that a hard working kid can do just fine there. IF she feels that her needs cannot be met there (and I see no evidence of that, currently), then she is welcome to bust her behind and try for someplace like TJ.

Take a walk in the hallways at TJ and you'll certainly feel like you are in another country. Also, even if the kids are "American" parents lack of the English language is evident.

Sad how FCPS brags to the whole country about TJ and most of the school is made up of first generation immigrants.

Haven't you noticed who are the medical and science experts on TV during this pandemic? It's mostly Asian doctors and scientists. The CEO's of Microsoft and Google are Indian. Zoom was founded by an Asian American. I think it's time for you to get comfortable with who is critical to our country's future. Your racism has no place here.

.

It’s really the first generation immigrants that make Harvard projects out of their kids.
Americans are much more chill and don’t want to make their life a cut throat rat race.

Last year there was not a single black person accepted. No thank you.

This is your answer, OP. If this is the prevalent attitude at TJ, then no thank you indeed.

Why the snark? As an Asian parent, let me tell you this.. no other country in the world is as welcoming as America to immigrants.. and it's the white people that made it that way. If the non-whites had their way, most would shut and lock the doors behind them so no one else comes in! I've interacted with enough Asians, blacks, Hispanics and Indians to know this.

Is this the prevalent attitude in TJ? LOL. I don't think so. TJ just keeps on trying to have its Kumbayah moment and wants to be the beacon that spreads STEM education to everyone. The truth is that TJ's demographic is very representative of those in this nation who drink the Koolaid that US is a meritocracy.

In reality - the stupid, dumb and connected deplorables will actually inherit whatever is left to inherit of this country after COVID foocks it up good and proper!

Which countries are more welcoming to immigrants than the US?
