"Asian" is just a bad proxy for a certain type of culture which apparently is prevalent/looming at TJ (I don't have personal experience). I am Russian and have to live with a bit of vodka/mafia/ballet/KGB stereotyping. When the majority of a group is engaged in certain behaviors, the minority suffers.
If the behavior produces good outcomes for the person/group practicing and is not illegal, others need to emulate. If not they need to STFU and move on chanting "I am not worthy". Will at least help calm them down.
It’s not healthy. Not from psychological point of view. I understand that you came from dog eat dog type of background but there is no reason to create cut throat culture for our kids. It’s not a good outcome.
There's always "cut throat culture" practiced somewhere just that you are more aware of it now. Do you think rich people were not extra schooling their kids back in the 50s? Your parents/grandparents were just not even aware of it. Jews were doing the same thing before Asians showed up. I recall coming here in the 90s and a lot of the spelling bee/geography bee winners would be Jewish kids. It was not a big deal because they looked white (are white I suppose). Is it big deal now because it's Asians doing it? Not justifying what you describe as "cut throat culture" at all. Not everyone practices that. I have 2 kids - one at TJ and the other not- only because I know where each will thrive best and support/encourage their journey accordingly. Sure some folks obsess about TJ and want their kids to get in by any means but that's their prerogative. What I take exception to is people assuming something is wrong at TJ because it has a lot of Asians. If this was 30 years ago and TJ was filled with nerdy white kids no one would be complaining. You make a lot of claims "not healthy from a psychological point of view", "not a good outcome" - Can you quantify any of that? Any research to back it up? More TJ kids jumping off bridges relative to non-TJ kids, more doing drugs? I don't think so.. Again, if someone can't keep up, they don't have to. Smart kids will survive wherever they go. We'll worry about our kids' psychological health, which BTW is just fine.
