I mean, if the 60 year old couple acrossed the street did it - I admit I would think it is weird. But much more welcome than a tongue in the ear

I only hope my husband still wants me to sit on his lap when I'm 60.

You people are weird.

I agree. My husband and I are openly affectionate with one another because we love one another. We've been together for a long long time, and I know I'll be sitting in his lap when we're 80.

in a diaper, I'm sure

We just named our third child "Grody." DH and I just love the name. It is extremely unique and goes so well with our first two kids' names: Macey and Dylyn.

The sad thing is, I think this is a joke, but it could be for real.

I'm that poster and it was a joke... but I would not be surprised to meet a "Grody" sometime soon.

I sit on my husband's lap sometimes but it's certainly not a parent-child thing. It's a way to be close.

I can't believe anyone (who's not extremel uptight) would have a problem with this. My parents still do it and it's wonderful. They also dance cheek-to-cheek in their living room to old tunes. They're a great example to all their kids.

I agree. What is wrong with some of you? with the divorce rate and unhappy posts on here, this sort of thing is a breath of fresh air (assuming there is not groping or anything other inappropriate going on).

It's the epitome of miserable posts on here.

I know one couple who used to do it in church! Everybody thought it was very sweet.

I can't see anything inappropriate about it unless they're naked or making out or something.

What is so wrong about kids seeing people in love or showing the ones they love affection in appropriate ways?

The Bible is very clear on this. This heathen couple is definitely in for a smoting.
What exactly is a "smoting"? Is it like excommunication? Stoning (that sounds closer in terms of spelling)? Is it like a bad yeast infection? Herpes? Chicken pox? Doesn't chicken pox lead to shingles? Is that shingles on a house or on a limb? I just think we should throw everybody into the ocean-if they can swim, they're evil. If they sink, it's a loss of a good neighbor but an avoidance of an inconvenient smoting. The real question is, how will this affect property values?

I sit in my husband's lap quite often in private and less in public.

He loves to have me to sit on his lap and I love sitting on his lap.

this is absurd!!!!! Of course it's ok! OP is seriously uptight. Go watch The Ice Storm or something.

my parents rarely showed affection in public and i swear it has made me less affectionate physically. I hate that they did that to me! Married, in love, affectionate? What a terrific role model for the kiddies!
I don't like it when my brother and his fiance kiss and give each other googly eyes and play with each others' hair at the dinner table when we are all having a deep conversation. But that's different!

Jealous?

Who cares?

I just wish my ass wasn't so big. Otherwise, I'd be all up on my husband's lap.

... what's the problem with that? I don't have an issue with a wife sitting on their husband's lap as long as it is kept appropriate. Should arms around shoulders and hand holding be looked down upon too?

It's actually good for kids to see their parents being sometime affectionate and loving around each other.

Wife has every right to sit on her husband's lap as she has confidence in him. She feels the love in him and accepts he takes care of her

My wife only uses pet names when she wants me to do something. It's annoying.

But the lap sitting thing, that's sweet.

Sitting on the same side of the booth? I'm fairly big and I use up lots of space when I eat. We tried doing that a couple times and just got in each other's way. Damnit, we're eating. We can invade each other's personal space later.
