Not as though people said this about Trump and here we are |
And yet he continues to crime without consequence. In fact, he's recruited a ton of people to defend him. Trump is evil, but he's no dummy. |
So am I, but we won't get it if Trump wins another 4 years. If everyone is just meh about Biden will they be energized to come out and vote for him in the general? What if it's cold or rainy or snowy? We already know many Bernie supporters will stay home. |
55% of this country is hyper-energized to dump Trump. Don't discount that energy. |
I'm tired of Bernie supporters trying to hold us hostage Biden is broadly popular. Barring anything surprising happening, I plan to vote for Biden. |
I'll vote for whoever I damn well please in the primary, thankyouverymuch, and I'll vote for the eventual nominee no matter who it turns out to be.
That's more than a vocal subset of Sanders supporters can say. |
Both failed presidential campaigns occurred before he spent 8 years as the VP to a popular 2 term president. Obama spent the last 3 years in office with an over 50% approval rating after a decisive reelection win. That experience, plus the way he handled himself in those 8 years and in that job have done a huge amount to bump up his public popularity. He's a much better candidate now than he was back in 1988 and 2008. The Democratic party had the momentum to win a 3rd term in the presidential office, but chose a defective candidate with a huge amount of political baggage. Even with all of her massive baggage, she won the popular vote (in large part because she was the Democratic candidate) but the "anyone but Clinton" demographic was bigger than the "anyone but Trump" demographic. Had the Democratic party chosen just about any other candidate, they probably would have easily won the presidency in 2012. Right now, Biden is about the only candidate that can reliably win the election against Trump, the polls notwithstanding. This is a strong economy which typically favors the incumbent. The very liberal echo chamber that is the Washington DC metro area and DCUM is not a good indicator of the strength of incumbency. The electoral college currently favors the president and picking anyone that polls as close to the incumbent as the other democratic candidates is folly. Unless the progressive wing take their ball and go home like they did last election, the democratic base is about the same size as the republican base and will balance out. Then you are looking at the moderate and independent voters and the majority of them will not vote for the extremists (Warren and Sanders). Klobuchar is the best candidate, but she does not inspire a huge number of people strongly to campaign for her. After that, the rest of them poll so closely to Trump, that it is just flat out dangerous to bank our countries fate for four more years on a coin toss. Yes, the "beat Trump" mentality is strong, but only if you bring in a reasonable alternative that the political middle is willing to vote for. I still hope that the ticket is Biden-Klobuchar so that she is well placed for 2024, but I think that's the strongest ticket available. |
Out of curiosity, what happens if Biden wins the primary and then has a catastrophic health emergency like a major stroke? Who takes over as the candidate? I’m a Biden supporter, by the way. |
Then the party decides. There's no set procedure. Why are you all concerned about Biden's health, but not Bernie's or Warren's? All these people are old and Bernie had heart surgery recently. |
I’m not especially concerned about anyone’s health right now, but stuff can happen as you get older. I was just wondering what the protocol was in the event of a catastrophic emergency with the chosen candidate. |
I’m 45. |
^Seriously. ...If I hear this one more time. People, stop justifying supporting a poor candidate. Vote for someone else! |
Biden doesn't inspire anyone. Honestly I think Hillary can still beat him. His only argument is voters want to go back to 2008. Maybe. If people want to go back to 2008, it will be because of Obama, not him. |
I have yet to see a single soul say Biden excites or inspires them (like Obama, like Bill Clinton, etc). They always say, He’s the most electable.” It’s ridiculous. It’s a mistake. |
Both Obama and Bill Clinton are in that small group of elite leaders -- Harvard and Yale law school graduates, HLR editor/Rhodes scholar, charisma, inspiring and having won tough national races. Biden was at the bottom of his class from a TTT law school. He only won races from a tiny state and lost big in his own bid for president. And he is 78 and declining fast. |
