| Democrats only raise taxes on the middle class and lower. Can anyone provide proof they don't??? |
Learn some reality please, and some actual history please. |
Transit doesn't work for tradesmen who live in rural areas. Check how far away your local tradesman lives, or landscaper. Plus they can't carry their equipment on the bus and metro. |
Farming requires a lot of different skills ranging from mechanical for the equipment maintenance, logistics, to business development and marketing skills as well as everything in-between. |
Then find a new career |
Oh, that's sweet! What do suppose will happen when all those carpenters, plumbers, landscapers, and electricians "find a new career"? Who will repair your hot water heater? Who will build that deck you've always wanted? Who will do any of the necessary jobs around your home that you don't have the skill (or the tools) to do? And just what "new career" do you recommend? Maybe they all could become computer programmers? You are a moron. |
They will adjust their business to higher gas prices, just like they do when gas prices go up for reasons other than taxation. |
Previous PP do you really think that public transportation is for poor people? Wow. Why do you think housing on metro lines are more expensive? So poor people can live there? As the PP above mentioned it is for efficiency. Can you imagine if everyone who takes the metro or metro bus drove every day. Traffic would be even worse than it is today. Further public transportation is not always a cheaper option. I had a friend who moved to cut down on his metro costs. Between parking and round trip fares for him and his wife it was over $30 per day. They could have driven for cheaper but it would have taken twice as long. And if it is for poor people why do so many famous people take the subway in NY. Efficiency. |
That's not what the poster above said ("Then find a new career"). Tradesmen who need to drive to meet their customers will certainly have to raise their prices a bit to compensate for any additional gas tax. I have no problem with that. But saying "...find a new career"? That's absolute bullshit. And the person who said it is either a troll or a total ass. |
Sure, but it's worth noting that the transit model doesn't work for their line of work. Nor does high density housing and HOA intolerance for overnight parking of their trailers and work vehicles. We need people to work those jobs and should look for other solutions for them |
The transit model would work just fine, because (1) they wouldn't have to sit in traffic caused by people driving around in the single-occupancy vehicles (2) dense land use would enable them to get around without giant work trucks. Also, there's no reason why carpenters, plumbers, landscapers, and electricians can't live in multi-family housing. Indeed, many do. Bans on work-truck parking are dumb, though - I agree with you there. |
It is a viable option for the poor. It was created to serve the masses, including the poor, and to create efficiencies. It was not a singular criteria decision. I should have stated “one of the reasons” not “the reason.” Yes rich people can ride too but they can also afford not to if and when needed or wanted. The point being that the poor have an alternative to expensive gas and cars. |
what a shane. latinx women and children will be hit the hardest by this new gas tax

This reminds me of the story about the end of the world. Headline in the New York Times: WORLD ENDS TOMORROW - STORY ON PAGE 12 Headline in the Wall Street Journal: WORLD ENDS TOMORROW - MARKETS TO CLOSE EARLY Headline in the Washington Post: WORLD ENDS TOMORROW - WOMEN AND MINORITIES TO SUFFER MOST |
No. Poor people are the least likely to own cars. |
