| 100% true. Moco is in steep decline. We haven't reach free fall yet, but it is coming. Schools continue to get worse and worse. Rather than improving schools, the entire focus is on diversity (whatever that means). The county is racking up massive budget deficits during good economic times. What happens when the economy sours? No new jobs and businesses. The county continues to roll out the carpet for illegal immigrants whose kids are crushing the capacities of schools and are requiring millions of dollars to be spent on ESL teachers and remedial course work. At some point, the US govt will have to downsize to control the national deficit. When that time comes or the US govt decides to relocate more agencies to save on costs, Moco is screwed because there is very little job diversity. Home prices are already starting to stagnate in Moco. Wait until they plummet as school performances continue to decline. Taxes across the board are likely to increase soon too I'd expect within the next few years because of the budget deficits and tsunami of retiring baby boomers. Moco is in bad bad shape. Entirely run by democrats. Elrich especially is a horrible politician who needs to go. |
I posted before about my in-laws from a similar area. They love to tease about our bordering a “No Nukes” zone or Ellsworth being closed to cars for the farmers’ market. They shut up when they compare my DD’s education and other aspects of her life as a teen (like taking the free Ride-On to our pretty well-stocked libraries and rec centers with dance and other classes) to her cousins who would be stranded in town with nothing to do for hours if they missed the school bus, so they go home and watch YouTube. My niece is just as interested in science and martial arts as my DD was at that age. There’s virtually no science in her school and no rec center at all, let alone low cost classes. |
Umm, are you pointing out differences between the South and MoCo or similarities? There are a good number of schools in MCPS who supply free breakfasts to all kids for the same reason. |
|
I disagree with you completely. |
This. I think some of the posters above are posting about the services they enjoy, but don’t realize that the changes in the County are going to lead to less money for those services. MoCo simply won’t be able to support the services over the next decade (well-stocked library, free Ride-On, etc) as the budget needs to make room for changing demographics. We see it in the school system already. It will spill-over to other areas as well. |
| Question. Does anybody actually like Marc Elrich? |
I'm a democrat and I hate him and I did not vote for him. But white males over anybody female... clearly is the people's choice. |
I'm a liberal white male, and I think he's a disaister. Elected by the activist ultra liberal branch of MoCo. |
| What gets me are the liberals who vote all these policies in, and then as soon as it is time to retire, they move to Delaware because they don't want to pay the taxes. |
But I don't get who actually likes him though. Liberal left wing activists are angry with him and say he's bad on housing and that he's a NIMBY. But the well-to-do homeowners don't like his leftwing views on business and taxes and the true NIMBYs think he's too far left on immigration. So who is actually his base? |
You? |
WV is actually a really nice place to live. Lots of fed employees live in JeffCo and commute on the MARC Brunswick line. Thousands of them. |
Then OP should definitely go there, no? |
+1 former R, re-registered as a R to vote for someone other than Trump in the primary. I tried. I blame the loony right. |
The problem is democrats from states like MD keep using 95, too. To escape the places like MD, where they've elected people who've made those states the messes they are, and then they move to other places where "taxes are lower" or whatever you want to insert here for their reason for leaving. Then they start voting for the exact same kind of people who made the state they just fled, worth fleeing. You want to have a liberal utopia? Fine with me. Just STAY there. Don't get sick of it, then escape to South Carolina and start trying to create it all over again. |
