DP. Bussing tables, scrubbing toilets, etc. were never MC jobs. They were always done by the poor (those grabbing for the first rung up and those who hit rock bottom). Many women in my family did those jobs to feed their kids and keep a roof overhead. I don’t think anyone doing that work is getting over no matter how they got to the US.

You know that the reason why Trump increased H2B visas by 15K in his first few months in office was because he said you couldn't find good [low skilled] help. So, either Trump was lying or there really is a dearth of Americans willing to work these low skilled jobs for which people like Trump pay very little for. Which do you think is true?

This 'love it or leave attitude' isn't useful when a county needs to retain as many tax paying residents as possible in order to maintain the level of services some people have come to expect? This boundary study is sure to leave taxpayers upside down on their mortgages. Such a short-sighted move will require taxes to be raised elsewhere. Growth in MoCo is stagnant. We need to hold proper discussion.

Montgomery County is one of the richest counties in the nation. I don't think we have to worry about taxpayers leaving. If anything, growth is what's driving people away.

Do you think that it will remain one of the richest counties? Importing large numbers of poor immigrants will not maintain the status quo. You may want to import the poverty, but at least admit that it will change the tax base. Especially when many of these immigrants work for cash only.

Immigrants work hard. They take care of people's children, clean their homes, cut their lawns, pave the road, bus the dishes off the tables in restaurants, renovate their homes, and on and on and on. Rich people need immigrants, now and forever. We're lucky that doing these gross jobs, for cash under the table, is a step up from their own countries otherwise wealthy people wouldn't be able to make use of them. It's win-win.

Yep. This is why there is such a push for welcoming illegal immigration. Why pay more for your lawn service when someone will do it for dirt cheap? Why bother with OSHA regulations if you’re a contractor? Easier to hire illegal immigrants who won’t report violations anyway.

It pays big time for the wealthy to embrace illegal immigration because they are the ones benefiting from it.

As long as that is the case, nobody has much incentive to fix the illegal immigration problem.

You could always get cheap foreign labor using H2Bs like Trump does for his resorts. It's not like those visa holders will report OSHA violations, and some overstay their visas to become illegal immigrants.

Those are not middle class jobs. I wouldn't want them and I don't want my kids growing up to clean toilets in office buildings or cut grass or bus dishes for a living either, even if we can pretend they would pay more if illegal immigrants weren't doing them. No one is ever going to pay much to bus dishes or clean the toilets. They're just not. Again, we're lucky that's a step up for some in this world and we're also lucky our own kids don't have jobs like that lined up for them when they grow up. Win-win.

DP. Bussing tables, scrubbing toilets, etc. were never MC jobs. They were always done by the poor (those grabbing for the first rung up and those who hit rock bottom). Many women in my family did those jobs to feed their kids and keep a roof overhead. I don’t think anyone doing that work is getting over no matter how they got to the US.

Tough jobs and the people who do them need to be paid more. How can you argue that it is better to have illegal immigrants do these jobs for less money than it is to pay more for the work?

Then advocate to bring them here LEGALLY. This is not that hard. If there really is a need, advocate for immigration reform. But, don't advocate to have more people break the law.
