65% believe what Trump said is racist, including a plurality of Republicans (45-34%)

The problem is that you're thinking that this stuff ^^ is what all Americans will have at the top on their minds when they vote. You have every single Democratic candidate saying they will give free health care to illegal immigrants, while Americans are either paying for private insurance or have no insurance themselves. Then they all say they want to strip the private insurance that many people are happy with and give us government insurance. If you think this sits well with people, think again. Yes, Trump is seen as vile by many Americans. And Dems keep saying "the party isn't the Squad!" But every presidential candidate is as far left as the Squad, or close to it. That's the Dems problem.

On the contrary, the infighting amongst the Democrats is what’s making you *less* likely to win. The squad vs. Nancy Pelosi is not a good look. Who’s the bigger “racist” is a tiresome game that the rest of America isn’t interested in playing.

Did you watch the debate? All hands, except one I think, went up when the question was asked. You think average Americans, who can't afford their Obamacare premiums, will want their money going go give health care to illegals?

Indeed, but Trump and Rs are pushing that narrative, a scare tactic if you will. Kind of like how when they were discussing ACA, some Rs used "death panels" to scare people into not supporting it.

Seriously? They all did! Even Biden.

Unless, by this, you mean that many of them believe in decriminalizing border crossing, in which case, they wouldn't be "illegal" immigrants anymore.

"In the first Democrat debate last week, the 10 candidates on stage the second night on Thursday — including former Vice President Joe Biden as well as Sens. Bernie Sanders, Kamala Harris and Kirsten Gillibrand — all raised their hands when asked who would offer health insurance to immigrants who entered the U.S. illegally."

Making healthcare available and making it free are two different things

But yes - I wish they had not raised their hands en masse. It was an obvious landmine - and look, yay, here it is exploding.

I like to think that more people hate fascism than hate the idea of healthcare being made available to people who dont have a visa. We'll see.

DP.. I didn't watch the debates so I had to google it. This is what I am reading..

The latter group would allow undocumented immigrants to purchase coverage through the exchanges established by the Affordable Care Act, but only with their own money.

If that happens, the pool would get larger, thereby lowering premiums. I don't think that's a bad idea.

as a PP noted, offering health insurance is not the same as giving it to them for free.

If they get on the exchange, the pool gets larger, thereby lowering premiums for everyone.

Do you think average Americans who can't afford their Obamacare premiums are wondering where that great health care that Trump promised is? He had both houses of Congress and two years and they did zero. And just who do you think is paying for health care for people here illegally right now? You know it's illegal not to treat anyone who shows up at the hospital doors, don't you? Yeah, that's right, we're already paying for it.

It would be much better to bring these people out of the shadow, give them work permits, make employers pay them minimum wage, and deduct premiums for health insurance, don't you think? They are here and are not going back and are bound to get sick once in a while (and they pick and prepare a lot of our food).

it truly is amazing, how folks seem to assume that democrats must be constantly on the defensive about everything - but no one is questioning how it's going to play for trump that he hasn't fulfilled any of his promises, like getting people better, cheaper healthcare
