| I am usually on the parents side when it comes to grandparents demanding time with kids, but this doesn’t seem like a big deal to me. If the kids want to go to camp or would miss out on something by missing a couple days, then send them to camp. If they don’t care or want to see the grandparents, send them! My kids are younger, toddler to age 7, but I would personally LOVE an evening or two with just DH. We could go out to dinner, I could organize my overflowing closet, sleep in past 6am! |
OP would have to spend 2 hours driving them to grandparents and then returning home. |

I expect it’s one of those things where it seems easy to DH to appease his mom by making his kids available at her request, no matter how illogical the timing. But it seems real easy to him because he wouldn’t bear the time cost of the driving, wasn’t the one who spent time making camp plans, isn’t the one who helps the kids pack their bags, isn’t the one that will let camp know that the kids won’t be there a couple of days but will be back, etc etc.
Could be wrong, but that’s my guess. Not a big deal overall, but enough small hassles that it’s irritating to OP. |
I subscribe to this opinion entirely. The time with grandparents is melting... later in life kids will be older and busy, and grandparents health will be declining. This is precious time. Make every moment count. |

You know, just ask the kids which they would rather do.
Otherwise, you're just pleasing your parents. |
| Its stupid to change plans since they see the GP many times each month. |
This. Exactly this. And on top of packing for our trip to the reunion, getting things around the house prepared to leave, etc. I won’t lie, it would be nice to do all of this without the kids home, but it’s not worth the added hassle on my part to make it happen. |
So don't make it happen. Say you're fine with it, but your husband needs to handle the logistics with his parents. Done. Then you use the extra time to prepare for the family trip. |
| I'd take them to see their grandparents. |
