DP. Many immoral things are and have been legal throughout history. Universities should be held to a higher standard. |
No, all should be held to the same standard. I know a doctor who did something just as bad, if not worse, reported it, and not held accountable as everyone covered for her. People do it because throughout history most are not held accountable and no consequences and in all reality this will be another slap on the wrist until the next scandal that gets ignored. |
Strawman argument. I'll tell you who likes development admits: NOBODY. There's a reason it is done -- for every one of those undeserving development admits, many other kids get opportunities they would not otherwise have. It sucks on an individual basis, but overall, society is better for it. That's how universities DO hold themselves up to a higher standard. |
You keep telling yourself that, but in Europe and Asia, there are no development admits. Yup, LSE turned down a billionaire's daughter. |
I’m surprised what LL did is illegal. She lied. |
Who cares what they do in Europe and Asia? |
You are extremely naive if you think Europe and Asia are bastions of meritocracy with the rich and powerful having no advantage. |
What about the older daughter? She's been at the school for a year. I wonder how she was doing academically. DCUM is very educated so I think everyone must be right but it's so hard to believe that they will get actual jail time. |
+1 I went to high school with a certain royal that was on all aspects pretty dumb. When a Cambridge professor looked at his stats he was like no way this guy is getting in. The British foreign service placed a call in to Cambridge, guess where this royal went? |
The ability to put a USC bumper sticker on the vehicles. Parents obsessed with TJ can relate, no? |
Middlebury? |
USC is not in the same league as TJ. |
It was a little more than lying. Me posting here that I weigh 125lbs is lying. LL paid half a million dollars to a fake foundation and then claimed a tax write-off of said “donation” when it was really a pay-off to get her kids into college. That’s a tiny bit more than lying. |
+1 And bribing a college official to corroborate a false element of her child's application. That's not a little white lie. |
What I mean is why didn’t she just join the rowing team in high school so she didn’t need to lie? I am sure mommy and daddy could have afforded it as well as expensive camps and clinics? Because rowing is hard and it interfered with her screen time. Signed rowing Dad Because crew practice often is at 5:30 AM and takes up most of a kid's free time. Even for coxswains who keep the team organized and do a lot of work if not physical workouts. They actually have to be really smart. The best coxswains study the race courses, know how to motivate the rowers and follow coaches instructions about stroke rates and racing strategies. Not for someone who admits online that they are only interested in college for the parties. Signed a crew mom (of a D1 rower) Think And that’s still no guarantee that you would get recruited! |
