The St. Pats talk is fascinating to me. I had 2 kids in a St. Pats feeder preschool 8 years ago and the moms whose kids went on to St. Pats were horrible. They wouldn't even look at me most the time despite us meeting a dozen times or more. I've never encountered this behavior before or after in DC---or really any other time in my adult life. I ended up sending my youngest kid to a different NW DC preschool and there was non of this behavior. They're now in a mixture of public and top (big3) privates and again, none of this. Something is weird about this crowd but it does seems centered on St. Pats (in certain years--I'm sure others are just fine).
A couple of years ago My DC was admitted to St Pats and the conversation I had with the parent responsible for welcoming me to the school actually was so awful that it convinced me not to go. The parent talked about how the school was great for kids but I shouldn’t go looking to have a community because the parents were largely insular. I literally remarked to my DH that I couldn’t imagine a worse conversation for a parent considering a school. I’ll never forget it either. I honestly don’t know what the parent was trying to accomplish. Aren’t we sending our children so they can become part of a community? I was seriously puzzled by the call.
