Hoax: Hate crime attackers: "This is MAGA country."

Bleach would freeze pretty quickly at those temperatures. The police called it a chemical substance -- even salt water would freeze very quickly at those temperatures.

First, the idea of two people who just happen to be around and recognize this man - and they were out in absolutely frigid weather with a rope and bleach.
They were wearing ski masks, but supposedly Smollett knew they were white?
What was Jussie Smollett wearing in this weather? If he was dressed for the weather, how did his attackers recognize him?

Then, the TMZ story and the police report.
TMZ reports that his attackers say, "this is MAGA country."
Initial police reports dispute this claim. Once the TMZ story goes viral, the police do a follow up interview with Smollett.
After this interview, police confirm that Smollett says he heard this.
Seriously?

Area video cameras have not captured any image of the attackers.

And, the tweets Smollett has made in the past few years indicate he is no fan of Trump or of Trump supporters.

This whole story does not add up.

I believe he made up the story and didn't even think about surveillance cameras. The police saying that the cameras captured no images is their polite way of saying it didn't happen.

That's exactly what I heard.

Because that's what you wanted to hear.

Are there news outlets reporting that it's possibly fake? or just here on DCUM?

The only update to this story I have heard/read is that police have looked at numerous camera footage in the area and have found no sign of the attackers. Smollett is seen on the camera at Subway, but that is it. Smollett also does not know exactly WHERE the attack happened.

If someone has undiluted bleach poured on their skin they’d have chemical burns. Especially if it didn’t get washed off quickly.

Plus windchills in Chicago are creating frostbite conditions in mere minutes and bleach would accelerate the process.

He still has the noose around his neck when he made contact with police. Why would he leave the noose around his neck?

Bizarre story.
It's being reported as fact on the morning shows.

Bleach would freeze pretty quickly at those temperatures. The police called it a chemical substance -- even salt water would freeze very quickly at those temperatures.

NYT said "unknown chemical substance" -- where are people getting "bleach" from?
Anyway, there is nothing about this that sets off "fake news" alarms.

I can't imagine someone would make this up. You would have to be a depraved person willing to throw away your entire career and reputation.
I 100% believe him although I do understand maybe some initial reporting is incorrect. That would not be surprising w/ TMZ.

TMZ originally reported it was bleach. Of course, they have updated their story. See OP's post.....
I have no doubt he was attacked. My questions are...did it really happen as he claimed? Was it truly on his way home, or was it IN his home?
I find it curious that police have looked at 12 different cameras and found no footage of the attack, or anyone matching the description of the attackers.
They are evidently broadening their search of cameras. That is good.
The other thing I find curious is that he could not pinpoint the exact area of the attack. This was near his home. You would think he would be able to identify the area.

huh? why would you think that?

Because, despite the fact that this is an area with lots of buildings and cameras, the police have found nothing on the camera footage.
They have checked a dozen area cameras and nothing has come up.

Could easily have been some sort of sex hookup gone wrong and was embarrassed and concocted a story as cover.

As of about an hour ago the AP is now reporting....

Chicago police have reviewed hundreds of hours of surveillance footage but have not yet seen any that shows an attack on "Empire" actor Jussie Smollett.

https://www.usnews.com/news/entertainment/articles/2019-01-30/police-no-footage-yet-of-alleged-attack-on-empire-actor

This really should come as no surprise to anybody.
