Think she cheated on her SAT?

Bullsh!t either/or fallacy. If the scores are already due for fall admissions, she needs THOSE scores. And I have taught long enough to know that depending on testing conditions, your score can just as easily go down as well as up.

If she didnt cheat, she should absolutely fight for THIS score.

They can always allow her to keep this high result if her next result shows that she didn't cheat. If someone prepped enough to get such a big improvement, they should be able to retake the test and get within let's say 100 points of this one, even if they (relatively speaking) bomb it.

Clearly none of you have seen Stand and Deliver?
She studied. Her score went up. She's brown, so they flagged her results. If someone in Chevy Chase had that kind of jump, they would assume Mommy and Daddy bought a tutor.

Didn't the kids in stand and deliver retake the tests?

They would still flag the test and investigate. It’s automatic for jumps of certain amounts, no matter where you live.

Yes. I have. At the end, they all take the test again and succeed, which puts to rest the allegations of cheating. Why can’t this girl do that? Easy peasy.

What she's doing is taking way more of her time and energy than retaking the test.

Anyone who raised their score that much fair and square would be jumping to retake the test and prove to everyone that they earned it.

It is ridiculous. And should be illegal. They need to hire enough qualified proctors to decide whether someone cheated or not in real time.

What she is doing would end this ridiculousness for everyone forever and is therefore very useful.

I just want to clarify to above posters that this is College Board, not ETS who sent her the letter.

I used to work for ETS and they were a great employer. Not that they are perfect....

But in this case it is College Board (who administers SAT)

Does ETS not still own the SAT and the “College Board”?

College Board is a separate organization.

From the ETS page

Aren't ETS and the College Board really the same thing?
No. ETS develops and administers the SAT®, the Advanced Placement Program® Exams and other programs on behalf of the College Board. The College Board sponsors these testing programs and decides how they will be constructed, administered and used. While the College Board is our largest client, we also work with dozens of other organizations and associations.

That is true. However ETS is more directly Involved with ACT. They do own College Board, but I believe College Board runs SAT on its own (yes, still a property of ETS).

When I was employed it all seemed very, very separate. And thus far the news reporting makes it seem that the test and the red flag and the letter were organized through College Board.

I’m not sure how this has become a racial issue. Do the students have to fill out what their race is when they take the SAT? Is her theory that the College Board flagged her because of her race?
