Think she cheated on her SAT?

This is from another article:

On Dec. 19, they sent her a statement saying, "We are writing to you because based on a preliminary review, there appears to be substantial evidence that your scores on the October 6, 2018 SAT are invalid. Our preliminary concerns are based on substantial agreement between your answers on one or more scored sections of the test and those of other test takers."

Eh who knows?

I find it odd that there is a press conference, a go-fund-me account, and a "high-profile attorney" involved. Sure, hire a lawyer to address the issue with ETS, but now we are publicly making an issue out of it to get money? Something is fishy ...

They don't just accuse everyone who had a big score bump

I am pretty sure cheated

The score bump doesn’t seem impossible but having the exact answers of the person near you does sound very implausible.

Don't the give out different versions of the test?

I don't know the details of this case, but if you check College Confidential this is not uncommon for the ACT to accuse people (wrongly) of cheating.

Pretty easy to just take it again. Strange that she didn’t offer. It would be the first thing I’d do if someone accused me of cheating, even just to clear my name - not beg for money. Then they could still use the good score if new one is in the ballpark. 300 point difference doesn’t seem in the same ballpark though.

How many other test takers are they talking about? Maybe it's possible that another test taker was cheating off of her test w/o her knowledge?

I would be pretty ticked if they accused me of cheating and I wouldn't appreciate them trying toss out a test score that I had worked hard to achieve - especially since she's applying to colleges.

Sounds like she wants to get to the bottom of this.

So her only valid score for college application purposes would be the score that was 300 points lower? Uh, no.

I would fight that, too.

I don't think it's as common with SAT for some reason.

My kid’s score went up by 350 points (from a 1080 to a 1430) and they held the score and investigated her for cheating. But they didn’t find any evidence and released the score. They must have found something on this student.

I am going to say something that will make people flame me.
As an Asian-American person who values hard work above all else, I do not think she cheated. I am quite confident if someone has the dedication to work really hard, get support where they need help, and are determined to do well, then they can do well in most things. It really is 10% inspiration and 90% perspiration. SAT tests English vocabulary and comprehension and Math. These are skills and content knowledge that can be acquired and mastered. It is hard for the average Joe to write the great american novel, but they can certainly master vocabulary and gain reading comprehension.
Unless ETS can come up with another reason that they have not shared with the public, a mere jump in scores (however stupendous) is not reason enough. If she was cheating during the exam, she should have been penalized then and there.

This is my thought, too. My kid’s score was flagged after a very high jump, but was released after an investigation.

Did you even read the OP?

Look:

"Our preliminary concerns are based on substantial agreement between your answers on one or more scored sections of the test and those of other test takers."
