surprised U of Georgia fell off the list

This list is so stupid. They just rotate the names around every year, add a few- drop off a few. Kids party more at Lehigh than Arizona and Wake Forest more than ECU - right.

Niche has Tulane, Univ. of Georgia and West Virginia University as its top 3. (I'm also very surprised they's include Lehigh and Wake Forest and not Arizona).

Wake Forest is a party school? In my day we called it Work Forest. Times change, I suppose.

How pathetic that someone has such poor social skills that they'd say something negative (including a school is a party school). Anyone with any decency just says, "congratulations" or "thats great, I hope Larla enjoys her new school." Just blow it off, OP. Be proud of your child. There are many wonderful schools and life is too short to be bothered by petty, socially inept people.

and your life is too short to be lecturing other adults on how they should talk to their friends.

DP. Even if I thought it, I wouldn't say it because I know some would view it as a dig rather than an objective statement. Also, you never know why the student ended up at that school. One of my kids never works hard and always gets good grades. My other DC works hard and struggles. While the second DC would love to go to a great academic school, if the best school that accepts DC is a party school, then so be it. Other kids might get merit aid from a party school and go because paying full ride at a "better school" isn't feasible. Based on those things, I tend to keep comments as positive as possible.

Socially inept people don't have friends.

THats my feeling as well. I've never understood the negative stereotype. Many highly competitive schools are party schools as well. I hope my daughters go to a party school!

well if that's the case you won't take offense when someone calls the school a "party school."
This is what surprised me about OP's post. Surely she had to be aware she was sending he kid to a "party school" and was fine with that. So why take offense when someone calls it what it is?

I think it's because it reduces the school to that one aspect. A party school like the University of Georgia might have an excellent special program that is why someone might apply.

Odd to me that people would want their kid to go to a party school.

First of all, it's an expensive investment, meant PRIMARILY ( I know not exclusively) for learning academic material (yes, also maturing, developing into an adult and having fun). More importantly, partying implies lots of drinking. That can be dangerous, even though people like to portray it as normal and harmless. So many rapes/hazings/accidents came about because of that. Just because that did not happen to you in college, why would you want your kid at a place where it is more likely? (And yes, data show that risk factors for such incidents include Greek membership and bing a varsity athletic.)

Your kid can go to Swarthmore and still do plenty of party drugs. You are a moron.

Yes, it does. And it's also a good school so, bonus.

I also agree it has a lovely campus and it isn't distracted by research and graduate study like many schools (even those with good names).

It is one of the top student Fulbright producing institutes in the U.S. And also has a beautiful campus.

Honestly, I can't fathom why anyone would saying anything other than, "Fantastic! I'm so happy for him/her!" when told where someone will be going to college. Why the need to editorialize or give your opinion? Some people are truly clueless.

Thank you. This made today’s visit to DCUM genuinely worth it. Appreciated!

I've heard that Christopher Newport (CNU) has really nice dorms.
