Reading the posts with the retarded quoting function is making me want to drink. Can I hide the bottles at the home of the quoter? |
It’s a symptom of his wife being an alcoholic. He’s concerned. How can you miss that? |
Yes. |
What is most productive way to have a conversation with a problem drinker doing this? I noticed no bottles in recycling bin but obviously bottles consumed this week wtf? Must be a less confrontational way highlighting genuine concern and fear. |

speak to them directly and specifically ask where the bottles are hidden |
DP seems like a reasonable assumption. |
I’m an ICU nurse and I’ve taken care of plenty of patients in liver failure who end up dying after being on a vent, after they are yellow with jaundice, pooping on themselves because we’re trying to lower their ammonia levels, and confused because they have hepatic encephalopathy.
It’s a terrible way to live out the end of your days. Nothing I can say on a message forum can convince an alcoholic to stop drinking, because it’s an addiction. But to anyone reading this who is, please get help. It’s a terrible, terrible way to die, and you can prevent yourself from dying from it. Today. Right now. |
NP here. My DW lied to me about drinking this past weekend. That is a bad sign right? Seems like it is a symptom of a problem with alcohol similar to hiding bottles described by other posters. |
Thank you for posting this. -someone trying to cut back and does hide bottles. |
Hey, the upside is you don't have to live very long in that state. By the time you get to debilitating liver failure, you've only got a couple weeks, and you're pretty out of it during that time. So really, it's not too bad, at least compared to cancer, CHF, ACD, COPD, ALS, dementia, or whatever else kills people over years of suffering. Heart attack or massive stroke in your sleep is still the winning lottery ticket when it comes to checking out though. |
So true. Will never forget seeing a patient die of cirrhosis for the first time as a 3rd year med student. He was confused, incontinent, cachectic, and jaundiced. Really awful way to die. ![]() |
what is considered a not awful way to die? in your sleep? |
I wish my shady Alcoholic dw would read this whole chain and make some life changes. Her life decisions are literally killing me. |
My DW has started hiding bottles and uses a credit card that she thinks I can’t check to get drinks at her lunches with friends now too on a regular basis. She is really spiraling downhill. Drinks at lunch, happy hour/late afternoon and evening/dinner. So sad. One day she will kill herself in car accident or die in a way the nurse described in an earlier post. |
