Pimmit Hills? No thanks. If you’re near the center of McLean, it’s got some walkability, the schools are better, and the housing is nicer. |
^^^ THIIIIIIIIS. If DCPS is genuinely not working for your child, that's one thing. But if your attitude appears to be "Obviously we need to leave the District by middle school," which is not super great, nor based on reality. With that said, Takoma Park is a great option for ensuring progressive, queer friendly, immigrant friendly, neighbors. But look at the thread on the MD Schools forum about Piney Branch ES for a pretty straightforward discussion of how Black kids in particular are underperforming. So....basically, nothing is perfect. Not even Takoma Park. |
Oops! Major content typo. Sorry. *NOT* the one they signed up for. The republicans have been very clear in first meeting us that they did not agree with the current administration. (Which was a huge relief to us, since they have also been extremely friendly and neighborly to us.) A lot of our neighbors are fed employees, retired military, medical professionals and diplomats. We also seem to have a high percentage of engineer. Some graphic designer/programmers as well. |
Sorry that’s not what I meant. I’m actually a Latina immigrant. I meant to criticize the idiots who think that undocumented workers only live in DC or MD and are a negative for the community. And then hire them as help. |
| OP if you move to McLean for middle school you’re not that crunchy anyway so youll probably be fine. |
|
You’ll be fine, OP.
McLean feeds into three MS/HS pyramids: Cooper/Langley, Longfellow/McLean and Kilmer/Marshall. None are “crunchy” but all have a significant number of immigrants. As others have noted, the Langley neighborhoods are more Republican and the McLean and Marshall areas are mostly Democratic. |
They are not "undocumented workers." Words count. They are illegal immigrants. They are illegal since they have no papers to be in this country. They are immigrants as they have no intention of going back to their country. I absolutely do not hire them to work at my house. I specifically tell folks whom I hire not to bring illegal day labor to my house. |
You are naive if you think you do not benefit from illegal labor. |
Really? How many “open-minded” wealthy libs send their kids to a mediocre or “bad” school? McLean has SOOO many low-performing schools with tons of SES diversity. |
NP here. Not sure that OP was looking for you to come up with your own personal litmus test. |
this, I think NoVa in general has a ton of very conservative immigrant families. Alexandria, for example. |
+1 Yes! |
I’m not sure how this is connected to your suggestion that one cannot have lots of money and also be a liberal. |
| OP where are y'all commuting to? |
|
OP--your post shows intolerance....why would you care if your kids' friends are republican or democrat or whatever? They're kids.....just find a school you like and shop around there. We have plenty of mixed republican/democrat households in Western LoCo and I can assure you our kids get along just fine and I don't give a crap about their parents' political affiliations. You can still hang out with your "crunchy" friends if you don't like your neighbors.
Signed--Western LoCo "Almost Off The Boat Immigrant Republican" not caring about his kids' friends political affiliations. |
