So I'm just going to put this out there and I'm sure I'll be flamed, but I can't figure out another way to get a feel for this.
We're a mixed race immigrant family with two kids, have been living EOTP in the District but now it's time to move for middle school. All the people we know who live outside DC live in Takoma Park, Silver Spring, Kensington, a few in the Rockville area. Every time I do kid activities in MoCo I run into friends. It's definitely more our vibe BUT the commute sucks from there and would be way better for us from NoVa. Inner Arlington seems expensive for the space and the schools don't seem as good as Fairfax. So we're thinking-gasp-McLean or Falls Church, the more walkable parts (I know those are pretty few and far between). I have heard some neighborhoods are friendly but I'm afraid that everyone will be a moneyed Republican lobbyist and I won't fit in. I know I probably have inaccurate stereotypes, but are there down to earth, crunchy, immigrant, mixed race, LGBTQ families out there? TIA.. I tried to ask my real estate agent these questions and couldn't really get answers. I think she thinks I'm crazy. |
| Go to Falls Church, not McLean. Be kind. |
| Maybe stay in DC? |
| We are a religious and ethnic minority and very very liberal. Live in Langley forest/parkview hills/river oaks which is where comstock herself lives. There are a lot of rebublicans around here as seen from comstock signs in yards. But there are also a lot of democrats as well, as seen from wexton signs in yards. Mclean is a great place to live, don’t get influenced by the naysayers. |
| McLean and Falls Church have lots of immigrants - certainly more than North Arlington. The areas zoned to Langley HS are mostly Republican, but anywhere else in McLean or Falls Church (zoned for McLean, Marshall, George Mason, Falls Church or Justice HS) will be mostly Democratic. |
m If not Takoma Park, then Shepherd Park DC comes to mind given the bolded, in case staying in DC is at all an option. My neighbors seem pretty happy with Deal/Wilson, and there are many interracial and two-mom/dad families here. |
| McLean has become very Liberal OP. Your assumptions show your own biases quite frankly. |
| Check out election results by precinct. McLean is not as republican as you think. Lots of immigrants as well. My child has school friends with parents from all over - Iran, India, Korea and China are best represented in our area. |
| Affluent Republicans are very good people, ate inclusive and kind. |
| Plenty of us liberals in McLean and a fair number are immigrants. |
More are in McLean HS district than Langley HS district. If you look at the voting, the further towards Arlington, the bluer it gets. |
Lol |
| Stay in DC and send kids to Deal. We are immigrants and mixed race. Two very happy kids at Deal. Commute on red line to Union station is fantastic most days. |
| What’s your budget? |
| Might be time for a new agent. Is she a minority? |
