Seneca Valley Expansion

Anonymous
What a bunch of ignorance.... Seneca Valley and Nortwest are drastically different. Seneca is a 4 and NW is a 8. Just as good as BCC. One of the best schools in the county and improving everyday. The question is whether Seneca valley will get better or worse with the expansion. We might end up with 3 pretty good high schools up here.

GreatSchools isn't everything. I think most people still put seneca valley and northwest on the same level.

you're wrong. You are basically ignoring the data (graduation rates, test scores, etc) if you think they are the same. Anyone who says that NW is a bad is ridiculous and is clearly showing their fear of brown people.

I haven't ever heard anybody who lives in Germantown refer to it as "Seneca". Where do you live?

Here is how these schools rank in one demographic component: 40.1% > 50.0% > 28.0% > 25.9% > 19.8% > 16.1%

Guess what the demographic component is? That has nothing to do with the PP's relative rankings of the quality of the schools, of course...
or clarksburg isn't that great of a school

I'm not a PP but I used to lived in a townhouse across the street from Northwest behind the Clopper Mill Village Shopping Center when my oldest was a toddler. We made sure to get out before he entered school. We live in Rockville now so we aren't super rich like Bethesda or Potomac families. We are very happy with our elementary that feeds into RM and the tons of amenities we have here. You must live up in Boyds because where we lived was pretty bad. The parks were nice and our townhouse was very pretty and it was an extremely diverse area but there was definitely a higher than average amount of crime. We had to call the police multiple times after we heard yelling and teenagers sneaking around in the alley behind our house. Houses on OUR block had been broken into during our time there as well. Maybe near Woodcliffe area it isn't as bad but that isn't a huge area itself. We moved after we heard GUNFIRE for the second time... yes it was really a shooting. I'm still shocked some people still think Germantown is a great area. We even lived on the nice side! Our previous experiences there continue to make DH and I stay way clear of Germantown. The shopping center always had empty storefronts and the Shoppers is not very nice.

I live in the area you described right now. None of the storefronts are empty...never had a bad experience at Shoppers (and if you don't like Shoppers, there are two Giants nearby and a Harris Teeter in Darnestown). We have lived here for 3 years now with no issue (never heard any gunfire, nobody has broken in). Our son has plenty of friends in the neighborhood and overall it is a pleasant place to live.

Sure I can. And I do.

But I guess it's an honor that Germantown, like Blair HS, has its haters on DCUM.

+1

We love Germantown and feel very lucky that we have our beautiful house in such a convenient area. Lots of parks, wooded area and trails, black rock center for the arts, Montgomery College, Black hill park, close to outlet mall, loads of hospitals (holy cross, adventist) and medical practices, loads of shopping, easy access to both 270 and 355, wonderful grocery stores ranging from Aldis to Wegman, Soccerplex...

BUT - it has diversity and many people do not like that. It is a mecca for new businesses though because it is very population dense. The school stats will always be a little skewed because of the umber of condos in this area.

I'm going to add easy access to DC via Marc and Metro. I too love this area and can't understand all the hate. Oh well.

Boyds is not a part of Germantown. There is a part of Germantown that has a Boyds zip code, but it is Germantown.

If you don't want to live near Shoppers, then you don't have to.

No, they are not one and the same. Boyds is zoned for the Clarksburg cluster.
