I live in Germantown and I was at Montgomery Mall when there was a shooting. I live in Germantown and my neighbor got mugged in downtown Bethesda. I live in Germantown and my friend had her car broken into outside her friend’s house in Potomac. I live in Germantown and my parents’ next door neighbors’ house in Rockville got broken into a few months ago. I’ve never encountered any of those issues in Germantown. |

We love Germantown and feel very lucky that we have our beautiful house in such a convenient area. Lots of parks, wooded area and trails, black rock center for the arts, Montgomery College, Black hill park, close to outlet mall, loads of hospitals (holy cross, adventist) and medical practices, loads of shopping, easy access to both 270 and 355, wonderful grocery stores ranging from Aldis to Wegman, Soccerplex... BUT - it has diversity and many people do not like that. It is a mecca for new businesses though because it is very population dense. The school stats will always be a little skewed because of the umber of condos in this area. |
| Northwest high isn't a horrible school and people need to see that. And neither is Seneca. They both have nice areas. Just because their schools are not the top doesn't mean there aren't some really nice neighborhoods out there. Trust me I know my friend used to live in Kingsview Village when our children were toddlers. She had a beautiful big house, lived on a beautiful street, and was in walking distance to a really nice park. |
| Well, if Germantown is a bad area then we need more resources from Mcps and Moco to make things better. |
Yes Northwest and Seneca are definitely comparable to Clarksburg. |
| Germantown schools need more resources. It has to be equitable. |

lol not even close. clarksburg is an ok school at that. QO >Sherwood> NW > Magruder >Clarksburg>Seneca |
ALL of these are ok schools. |
LOL I'd say QO and Sherwood are better than okay. PP just because they aren't pressure cookers and crazy competitive schools doesn't mean they aren't good. They are very well-rounded which a lot of people choose over a W. |
Yup. QO is 243 in the nation, but downcounty elitists ignore that fact, and only call it "ok" because they can't stand the idea that upcounty could have something great. That's also why they minimize the quality of Poolesville. |
Clarksburg is more than ok. It's funny how you ranked Magruder which is not even upcounty by the way, higher than Clarksburg despite Clarksburg outranking Magruder in basically every category . By the way the top Montgomery county schools which made the US news ranking this year are Churchill, Poolesville, Wootton, QO, and Clarksburg... so I would say it's more than ok. |
PP here that said all those schools are ok and still stands by the comment. Also someone who actually worked for MCPS in an actual school (3 different schools) and went to an MCPS and now lives in Clarksburg (so not a “downcounty elitist”). Certain groups like to make themselves feel better by making others feel low. It doesn’t matter the school, you can get an MCPS education and succeed at any of those schools. The schools that you consider better have one thing in common. Tell me what you think that might be bc that’s why society ranks them better. |
Here is how these schools rank in one demographic component: 40.1% > 50.0% > 28.0% > 25.9% > 19.8% > 16.1% Guess what the demographic component is? That has nothing to do with the PP's relative rankings of the quality of the schools, of course... |
Oh of course not! And the fact that W schools are ranked higher has nothing to do with their particular demographic characteristics and instead is because the kids there are “higher performing.” |
