How will Wootton or RM be affected by new high school in Crown Farm?

Why would you add RP? There are other ESs in the cluster that are closer - Beall and CG.

As for Wootton cluster, Lakewood ES is much closer to Crown than Fallsmead. I don't think you are very familiar with the surrounding area.

Fallsgrove is part of Ritchie Park which is the neighborhood closest from RM.

2. The new HS is going to be in the Gaithersburg HS area, so the Dufief/Wootton/RM area will likely not be impacted. However, no one knows for sure yet.

Yes but Dufief is pretty close to Crown Farm. Rio Center is in Wootton district so there is a large chance that wootton will be impacted, though I'm not sure it will be Dufief who is impacted.

Huh? Dufief is not that close to Crown Farm. You must be totally new to
this area.

First post on this subject but Dufief is close. You realize that up until recently there was houses on the Howard County line that went to Gaithersburg HS. The distance from the furthest house is only about 3.5 miles to the proposed Crown location (~8 min drive). You realize that the Unity/Sunshine area had a 14-15 mile, 30+ min (through backroads) to Gaithersburg and there are still kids from Laytonsville that have 12+ mile commutes to GHS. Personally, I do think that Dufief will be zoned to Crown but its really a guessing game since the current boundaries are so ridiculous.

Defief will not be rezoned. People bought into that area specifically because it feeds into a W school. These people are also known as “voters” and will very eagerly raise hell in the ballot box over this sort of thing. Furthermore this discussion may be different in five years. What about the thousands of jobs coming to the Belward farm development? What if Amazon HQ2 lands at White Flint? The whole area may be different.

Didnt Richie Park get rezoned from Wootton to Richard Montgomery and some of those kids are basically adjacent to Wootton? I guess those people must not have been voters nor have all the other voters in boundaries that have gotten rezoned or not rezoned (Laytonsville).

Anyways, its is pointless to speculate too much but any homebuyer with very young kids should at least be aware of it. Dufief will definitely be in consideration and so should other ES such as Fields, Rosemont, Summit Hall, Stone Mill, etc.

Dufief could definitely be rezoned. It doesn’t matter what expectations people bought into the neighborhood with. Rezoning happens all the time. It’s a risk you take when buying a home.

Are you an idiot? Home prices. Who wants to gamble if you don’t Gabe to?

When they moved Ritchie Park out of Wootton to RM, home prices dropped between $75-100K per home.

Exactly. The main reason most fight for boundaries is not the school, but the home values. No one wants to watch close to 6 figures in equity slip away.

I wouldn’t want to buy a home in n area that may be rezoned. You could be upside down on your house. Who wants that.

The entire King Farm will move to Gaithersburg
Dufief and Fields will be moving to Crown
A good chunk of FARMS from Gaithersburg will be moving to Crown and maybe some to QO

QO is already overcrowded, they wouldn't send them there. It would lose half the cluster's FARMS if they removed Fields Road.

All of MCPS could be rezoned. The BoE and MCPS do not, and should not, make decisions about education based on your property values, or anybody else's property values.

Also, there are not a lot of farms in Gaithersburg, and they don't go to high school. Perhaps you are referring to students who qualify for free and reduced meals?

Not to be catty or belabor a point, but there are lots of actual country farm kids going to G'burg with insane commutes bc the school board thinks its okay to send kids to a school 10-15 miles from home.

Most of Beall is walkzone to RM. it will likely be either Collge Gardens or Ritchie Park.

Not really. There are only 540 farms in the whole county. But yes, a small part of the Agricultural Reserve around Sundown Road is zoned for Gaithersburg HS, and yes, that's far. The first bus stop for Gaithersburg HS students in that area is 6:21 am: http://www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/departments/transportation/busroutes/04551bus.pdf

Although compared to the rest of the Agricultural Reserve: the first bus stop for Poolesville-zoned Poolesville HS students is 6:22 am, and the first bus stop for Damascus HS students is 6:31 am.

I wonder what would happen to the whole IB curriculum at College Gardens in the event it got moved to the new Crown HS.

I don't think it will get moved to Crown because of the whole PYP/MYP/IB path (and it is no where near Crown) but I do think all of Kings Farm could go to Gaithersburg HS. If KingsFarm went to Gaithersburg and Fallsgrove went to Crown, RM would be much less crowded.

Good question. If it's removed, the PTA could fund it.

Woodley Gardens families might be quite happy they were moved to Beall after all is said and done.

But you didn't state just FG. You stated RP, as if all of RP would go to Crown.
