Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS)
Omega Drive and Fields Road. |
This shows that you have no idea of how they hire for new schools or the effect on teacher transfer season. Opening a new school is an exciting opportunity for administrators and teachers, especially good ones currently in a school where there are other good teachers/admin with more seniority. The chosen principal (and HR) will hire the rest of the administration and leadership team (department heads) from a pool of eager applicants in January/February, then they will hire teachers from a pool of eager applicants in March, BEFORE the regular transfer season. Essentially, the school will cherry pick the best teachers from around the county. When transfer season opens, there will be many openings at other schools, but the new school will be mostly staffed. |
| The new Crown HS will probably be similar to RM and QO, a mix of low and high SES. They might even stick a magnet program in there to make it more attractive? Good for RE values for most ES clusters, but maybe not for the cluster that comes from Wootton (see Ritchie Park ~1985). I wonder how the Crown redistricting will leave Gaithersburg HS though. Crown HS probably takes the one of the higher SES parts of that cluster. |
+1000000. The bus ride is insane, and there are now higher income areas closer to GHS they could pull from. |
Gaithersburg HS includes East Montgomery Village and Laytonsville - higher SES areas that were there before King Farm and Crown were built and will be there after Crown HS is built. |
Huh? Dufief is not that close to Crown Farm. You must be totally new to this area. |
First post on this subject but Dufief is close. You realize that up until recently there was houses on the Howard County line that went to Gaithersburg HS. The distance from the furthest house is only about 3.5 miles to the proposed Crown location (~8 min drive). You realize that the Unity/Sunshine area had a 14-15 mile, 30+ min (through backroads) to Gaithersburg and there are still kids from Laytonsville that have 12+ mile commutes to GHS. Personally, I do think that Dufief will be zoned to Crown but its really a guessing game since the current boundaries are so ridiculous. |
| Laytonsville kids going to GHS get on their bus with stops starting at 6:34am. If you think Dufief isn't close compared to the insane commutes demanded of Laytonsville/East Village area kids, you're out of touch. |
| *6:24. Fat fingers. |
Defief will not be rezoned. People bought into that area specifically because it feeds into a W school. These people are also known as “voters” and will very eagerly raise hell in the ballot box over this sort of thing. Furthermore this discussion may be different in five years. What about the thousands of jobs coming to the Belward farm development? What if Amazon HQ2 lands at White Flint? The whole area may be different. |
There's no building at Belward Farm until the Corridor Cities Transitway is funded. How is that going? Also, people zoned for Dufief are not the only people who are voters. |
| These are the elementaries that border the Crown farm property and surrounding area: Rosemont ES(Gburg), Fallsmead(Wootton), Fields Road(QO), Stone Mill(Wootton), and Ritchie Park(RM). |
Are you an idiot? Home prices. Who wants to gamble if you don’t Gabe to? When they moved Ritchie Park out of Wootton to RM, home prices dropped between $75-100K per home. |
Why would you add RP? There are other ESs in the cluster that are closer - Beall and CG. As for Wootton cluster, Lakewood ES is much closer to Crown than Fallsmead. I don't think you are very familiar with the surrounding area. |
Parts of each of the school zones the PP mentioned are within a few blocks of the Crown HS site. (Not necessarily the school buildings themselves.) |
