| I clicked on this really hoping that there was a legitimate write-in candidate being announced. I cannot in good conscience vote for either Silberberg or Wilson. And I'm meh about the others. It may be Micky Mouse for me. |
Let’s crowd source a candidate here. Let the DCUM hive mind sus out a decent pick.

Here on Alexandria City West End we have done without (x police, fire, ems) for decades, while money flowed by City design to the East End. No storm drains, no side walks, no paving of streets, no nice build up (x for Van Dorn area). Because our homeowner land is generally larger than East End, we also generally paid much higher taxes. It's hurt many of us.
Regarding this thread: I have NO DOUBT ALL CITY COUNCIL KNEW ABOUT THE NEED FOR ELIMINATION OF SOUTHERN PY ENTRANCE MONTHS AGO. They just kept it from us all. City Staff too. If they had a thread of decency, the lot of them, they would have told us all months ago. Transparency is what Alexandria thrives on. Vote them all out. Mark Jinks must go too: tired of his speak. Time for new blood in Alexandria City! It's time folks. |
OMG. If you had any clue whatsoever you'd never have made this post. The East End carries the entire city and as a whole doesn't even use the schools. The west end is a drain on the city. |
Not even close. The east end has proportionally (measured in dollar value) more non-taxable property. The east end and west end school populations actually aren't that different. The west end is now a majority of the city population. The east end has three of the four metro stations (soon to be four of the five) and seven of the ten DASH bus lines. The east end has a free tourist shuttle. The west end receives crappy services and pays for the east end. |
In your dreams, pp. I'll show you my city taxes if you show me yours. |
I am the FP. I am in total alignment. I'd even agree to Marion Barry Sr at this point. It can't get any worse. |
It could definitely get worse but there has to be something better out there! |

I agree with the Post on this one. They endorsed Wilson. The choice is between a Vice Mayor who may not always make decisions you agree with but who is well versed in city governance and has a vision for growth and a Mayor who might love Alexandria but has no idea how to deal with its issues.

The Bezos' Washington Post editorial City mayoral endorsement (compared to owner years of Donald Graham then wife Katherine Graham/Ben Bradlee) is a shell of it's original self in prestige and famed Watergate work. Indeed we could use factual Bernstein and Woodward sleuthing here in Alexandria City for the truth on the timetable for WMATA NDA here in Alexandria City. |

This is absolutely blowing up on FB. Wilson is looking baaaaad. His base is in frantic defense mode. This is a gift to Allison 8 days in advance.
I'll be curious to see what tomorrow morning brings. |
What on earth about this story reflects well on Allison?! I recognize it's easy to miss given her complete lack of efficacy in the role, but she is, in fact, THE CURRENT MAYOR. The buck here should stop with her. The fact that she's nowhere to be found in these emails is really a function of the fact that she's nowhere to be found in city government generally. Zero points awarded for that. |
This is Alexandria. The Mayor is a figurehead for the council. Welcome! |
No one looks good here but the mayor can claim ignorance based on ignoring emails. Justin is competent and on top of things but that damns him by removing the ignorance plea. So which is worse? Not knowing or not caring? |
EXACTLY. But honestly, not knowing. Not knowing is way worse. |
