Alexandria Mayor Race

Anonymous
Big surprise coming today.

What? That there is another candidate? Did he get enough names to be on the ballot?
Anonymous
Don't tease. What is it? Where should we look? When should we expect?
Anonymous
Ohhhh - I hope it's a third alternative! I'm not really crazy about either of the choices so far.
Anonymous
If third candidate, would be an independent, and not in the ballot for the primary races on Tuesday.

One of the two current candidates may have lied big time about a big deal. It's just going around now.

Is it the Metro deal? Because that is old news.

NP. There were supposed to be two entrances to the new Potomac Yard metro stop - one by the cinema, and one closer to the residential area. A lot of people bought very expensive town homes and a few companies are planning to relocate their headquarters based on the metro entrance being within easy walking distance (including a National Institute for the Blind training facility.) "Suddenly" there will be only one entrance to the metro in a very inconvenient spot.

It turns out the Mayor's office knew about this for over a YEAR and didn't tell the public.

They both lied. And city staff worked proactively to hide it all from the public as long as possible.

So basically...just another day in Alexandria.

Any news reports of this yet? Where'd the screen grabs come from?

That image is blurry but there's more here if you are interested. https://pycr.blog/

Basically residents of Potomac Yard did a FOIA around the metro mezzanine deletion and found evidence of the city council knowing about the deletion in 2017 (not "just a few weeks ago" as several are stating).

More importantly, the documents show that when WMATA posted an image of the one mezzanine design in early April, city staff worked hard to get it taken down - even as WMATA expressed that it was not confidential under their rules (recall that the city is saying the WMATA NDA is why they couldn't tell the public).

Its not 100% clear to me, but it seems that City staff did believe that the NDA applied, and despite the line from WMATA, there is nothing there that suggests that at any time City staff accepted that the NDA did not apply.

There is also nothing there that indicates that the either CM Smedberg or Vice Mayor Wilson were at all aware that WMATA did not consider this to be under the NDA. Indeed it appears Vice Mayor Wilson WANTED to share it with PYMG.

Someone on City Staff (not necessarily Mr Jinks) appears to have erred. But no evidence I can see that any elected official deliberately withheld information that they thought it was legal to reveal.

Anyway the framing on this is unbalanced, as it remains likely that a short route to the north entrance will be provided.

Holy crap... thank you for posting that. If their interpretation of the information holds up, my vote has been changed.

Against Smedberg?

Why against Wilson? It appears he wanted to share the information. But believed (presumably on advice of City staff) that the NDA did apply. And where was Silberberg? Just out of the loop, because well, she is?
