I find him intelligent and reasonable and have no disagreements with him on the issues. |
Wow. I hope I do not know you. |
Evidently the City was not convinced by the Ray-Feely-Silberberg-Seifeldein bloc (though Mo did win) But you can keep calling people you don't agree with liars. |
Two were leaving anyway, and one of those, Bailey, had opposed Wilson on the meals tax. Bennett-Parker seems to support the Wilson position on schools, taxes and development. Aguirre and Jackson seem to not be hostile. The only insurgent is Seifeldein, and after his performance at the debate, I don't think he will be good at coalition building. |
Three years ago the antis ran on the GOP line (aside from Silberberg herself). Every single GOP council candiate lost. This time they (including one of the old GOP losers, Bob Wood) tried to back a slate in the Dem primary instead (They went one for four). They presumably did not have the money to BOTH back a slate in the primary AND one in general. |
OMG. A nerdy policy wonk guy makes jokes that fall flat. I am shocked, shocked I tell you. And proud that my fellow citizens didn't vote on that basis. |
Sorry, fixed. |
Same. I think the folks of Alexandria got this one right and I am looking forward to the change. |
I'm not a big Wilson fan but I'm glad the race is over. Hopefully the new mayor will get along better with whoever ends up as vice mayor (along with all of the other council members) and the city will be the better for it. I can't imagine that the poor relationship between the mayor and vice mayor hasn't negatively impacted Alexandria in some form or another over the last few years given how little they seem to respect each other. Checks and balances are a good thing but it felt like their mutual animosity went well beyond that. |
| Did anyone catch Wilson on the Kojo Nnamdi show today? I heard only the last two minutes of his interview with Kojo. When asked about the perceived lack of transparency around the PYM, he talked about the developers. When Kojo pressed further and said that several city staff knew about the changed plans a year ago, he deflected that, too. |
Someone else made this comment on the thread about Eleanor Holmes Norton, but I think it applies to Del Pepper, too: Her time was over with more than a decade ago, really. She needs to go. And since she doesn't have the humility and intellect to see and realize that, I submit that that is proof in itself that she needs to go. |
Listening to it now here: https://thekojonnamdishow.org But so far no Wilson, perhaps he called in. |
He did not deflect. He said they were told price was too high, that they could instruct WMATA and staff to continue to pursue existing procurement with cost-cutting measures, and they did so. Everyone should have pushed harder on NDA, but it was a combined universal error across all electeds and staff. If you had asked Siberberg, she would claim they weren't told anything until March. I have witnessed her in multiple meetings. I have seen how she can have something explained to her again, and again, and AGAIN, and she does not comprehend it. Notice no other member of Council made the "didn't know until March" claim. That's because it's not true. For all the people claiming Wilson is a liar, I would submit that Silberberg is the one that is guilty of falsehood in this instance. By the way, here are the results for the precincts closest to the Potomac Yard station... 111 - POTOMAC YARD Allison Silberberg 44.87% Justin M. Wilson 55.13% 106 - CORA KELLY Allison Silberberg 43.03% Justin M. Wilson 56.97% 109 - FIRE DEPARTMENT HEADQUARTERS Allison Silberberg 44.95% Justin M. Wilson 70.14% 108 - GEORGE WASHINGTON MIDDLE SCH Allison Silberberg 31.55% Justin M. Wilson 68.45% 101 - LADREY SENIOR BUILDING Allison Silberberg 56.12% Justin M. Wilson 43.88% Here's the map for reference https://www.alexandriava.gov/uploadedFiles/elections/2017%20Precinct%20Map.pdf Only one of these precincts went for Silberberg. I think a very small number of people have been expressing outrage over this, and further trying to place very specific blame on Wilson. The results show that this outrage is a minority opinion. |
Ok, on above link, go to today's discussion of last night's races, and scroll red bar to 15 minute in point for Justin Wilson's comments. |
I'm a Potomac Yard resident who is certainly outraged. But I think it's silly to direct that outrage at Justin Wilson but not Silberberg or the rest of the council. What happened with the deletion of the south entrance was WRONG - but they all knew it and they all did it. In the end, the right thing for this city is to build this metro station (and I would also argue to build it RIGHT from the start) - but it's definitely to build it. That's a Wilson vote. It is clear that many of my neighbors agree. Had there been a third candidate who wanted metro but in a transparent way that doesn't screw over early adopters like NIB and my neighbors... I'd be all in on that. Sadly that hypothetical candidate was not on the ballot. But give me the devil who will build smart development and a commercial tax base in the end over the 6-1 dissent vote any day. |
