Was Obama indirectly responsible for Trump becoming president?

What racism? Surely you're not going to dig out that Charlotteville example again, comprising 1/100,000 of 1% of the popualtion? (Less, even.) The fact of the matter is that if racism were as prevalent as you claim, Obama wouldn't have won. (My vote: 2008/Obama, 2012/Romney, 2016/Trump.)

The lousy candidate the Dems had is directly responsible for Trump becoming president. Many people voted for Trump simply because they were sick of the Clintons.

I did not vote for Trump and he would not have been my choice for president. But the one redeeming aspect of his victory is that it, hopefully, has put the Clintons out to pasture ........ though you can never be sure with them because they have this compelling need to stay in the limelight. How can they fund the Clinton Foundation - Chelsea's trust fund - unless they are power players?

I don't think it was Obama indirectly responsible as much as it was Bill Clinton himself. He and Trump spoke on the phone, and Bill, looking for the one sure candidate his wife could beat, and knowing he was speaking with an egotistical narcisstic, planted the idea in his mind.

Big oops.

No. that honor goes to Clinton and Putin. They are responsible for Trump.

It may be a small percentage, but it's growing. One of the Charlottesville marchers just got elected to a local GOP seat in his home county. There's some scary stuff in this article:

Republicans are responsible for Trump. They had the chance to nominate one of 13 other qualified candidates and they picked the lying psychopath who subverts American values and the Constitution.

Republicans have only themselves to blame for this mess. Take personal responsibility for your failings.

Who's this "you" you are talking about? You seem to think that most Republicans wanted him. To the contrary, the majority of all Republican voters picked someone other than Trump as the nominee.

What mess? He is unconventional but we have an economy that is humming along after years of being in the doldrums, many more Americans feel we are on the right track, he is implementing or trying to implement his campaign promises, judicial appointments are the conservatives he promised, he is trying to work out a deal with NK, he told Iran to go fly a kite, he is actually pushing for better trade deals and making some progress ........ and above all, he is driving liberals to become total loonies as evidenced by the posts on this forum!

Bonus: he made sure that Hillary - an utter incompetent - did not gain the presidency.

+1.

I didn't vote Trump, but will confess, here in private, that he's less bad than expected

And then you gave him your vote in the general. He is all yours.

Two different decisions. The first was which Reoublican in the field did I want, and my LAST choice was Trump. The second was between Trump and Hillary - an entirely different decision - and as bad as he was, he was still the better choice: SUPREME COURT.

And as far as him being "all mine," he's done some good things. Where we would have been under HRH Hillary at this point is an unknown, but gathering from how she's conducted herself since she lost, she is even worse than I thought.

I wasn't the PP you're addressing, but your continuing to call people delusional deplorables exemplifies the very attitude that caused you to lose the election.

All presidents are responsible for the subsequent president that replaces them. Many voters vote in reaction to the president's legacy, whether in favor of it or in opposition to it. The linkage cannot be avoided.
