How can anyone believe in god when there's so much evil in the world?

God gave man free will so don't blame God for mans' inhumanity to man.

"The one thing that should never be said when someone dies is "It is the will of God." Never do we know enough to say that. My own consolation lies in knowing that it was not the will of God that Alex die; that when the waves closed over the sinking car, God's heart was the first of all our hearts to break."

Rev. William Sloane Coffin, from his eulogy for his son Alex.

I don't know why there is suffering in the world. I don't think that the Bible answers that question. Job, the book that most explicitly addresses the issue, ends with God essentially telling Job that Job cannot possibly understand or judge God. I tend to reject theodicy--I have yet to encounter one that didn't turn God into a sadist or an abusive parent.

Just look at the conflict going on today. Israel believes the land was given to them by God. This only harms anyone who is not Jewish.

Then it was cruel for god to give us free will, thus limiting our chances to get to heaven.

Also, if he is all-knowing and knows what we are going to do in advance, then it isn't free will, now, is it?

(BOOM! no god possible)

No loving god possible. if he loves us and is still so cruel, then he is an abusive parent. He set us up for failure.

An alternate question can be asked: "How can their NOT be a God when there is so much good in the world?"

Without God, the brutal laws of "survival of the fittest" and Darwin's callous view, as was Hitler's callous view of life's struggle, would result in everyone killing and doing evil, as necessary, to get all the can, as much as they can.

Only the Holy Spirit of God restrains mankind from destroying themselves utterly.

I hate when people use other people's tragedies as a doubter talking point. Talk to someone who has really seen some shit about how God shepherded them through something awful, like Larry Nassar victim Rachael Denhollander.

Why didn't god shepherd them to avoid it completely?

What would you do if you were god?

I bet you would do it differently. I know I would.

Wow. God created the world and all that is in it. And you're even wiser than He is. You must be really something. I wish I knew you.

You miss the point.

I would not create eye-burrowing worms, for one example:

I do not think I am wiser than a true god would be. Yet I would be wise enough to not create these, but they exist. Therefore, there is no god and so "he" did not create anything.

No, I fully get your point. You cannot conceive of a wisdom higher than your own; therefore, there cannot be a being wiser than you. Because you think something is unwise, that makes it categorically unwise. You are the arbiter of whether something you think is unwise is wise. And because you cannot conceive that something you think unwise might be wise to a higher being, you also are the arbiter of the faulty logic that there cannot be a higher being because you yourself cannot conceive of such a being. You made your point quite well.

So why is god the default answer for anything you don’t understand? Especially when science has answered so many questions whose answers we once attributed to god.
