Rachel Weisz pregnant @ 48

Sometimes the natural pregnancy gets aborted, then medical help is needed when you're ready.

Never in reality.....

I think its because his face is ridiculously severe.

Your friends probably do not have unlimited funds.

or, maybe, just maybe, they actually want that sooner rather than.later. 30 year old mom's are not exactly teen moms!

I was thinking the opposite. Rachel is beautiful but Daniel has very harsh facial features. He is handsome but in an unconventional way....like Clive Owen.

"Change of life" babies were not uncommon before common use of birth control. I keep reading stories of women whose grandmothers had their last at 50.

I have a feeling a lot of natural change of life pregnancies just are not continued. I know several who termitated because they just couldn’t handle having another child so long after their others. A lot of these types of pregnancies miscarry, too.

All of the women I know who had babies over age 45 (I know 3) had extreme complications and two of the three kids were born with Down's Syndrome.

Something to be aware of.

I am sorry but you're quoting statistics from the 1960s when most mothers who had babies at that age were impoverished, and already had huge numbers of children in their homes.

These mothers having children in their 40s are wealthy and look after themselves. The statistic however has not been updated for over 50 years and idiots like you trot it out at any given opportunity.

Such a bore and so ignorant.

Are you trying to say that being "impoverished" leads to down syndrome?

I had no idea my favorite librarian was packing such heat in the male partner department.

That second picture is adorable

Right now it is more celebrity types who are having late in life babies but with the heavy push for late 20's/30's women of all walks of life to store eggs later in life babies will become more and more the norm. My sister had twins just before she turned 50 9+ years ago. At nearly 60 - she is healthy, active, in an amazing job and I don't see her parenting as any different than her much younger kids. Who cares in what form the cells came together for that baby-lucky her!

She had twins just before turning 50? Poor kids.

To purposely have twins at close to 50 is so selfish

Idk. I personally think that we don’t quite know the long-term health effects of elective freezing of eggs. In particular, I would be concerned that the increased hormones could lead to an increased risks for certain types of cancer. Additionally, I worry that as a society we need to focus on supporting motherhood through paid maternity leave and things like that first or else the new norm will be companies expecting women to delay having kids in a way that also is not a real choice.

Fair points. I also think that by not having honest discussion about the fertility treatments, including costs, these celebrities almpst certainty went through to have babies at 47, 48, etc. we are misleading women about their own fertility. Just because a celebrity or Internet strange "naturally" had a baby at 47 doesn't mean most women will and women shouldn't plan on it.

I said, "I could beat those odds. It would be just my luck." Not because I'd want to, but because I feel like I'm stupidly fertile. Now I'm too paranoid to have sex. I'd be that 0.0001%.

I'm 49 and just saw my dr. and she said we'll need to decide what I'm going to do for birth control when I turn 50 and stop taking the pill. Not something I thought I'd have to worry about.

I started a thread about her pregnancy on infertility forum where it is much more relevant for all of us infertiles but the thread was for a bizarre reason locked and I was told to join this thread. Any who, here is my opinion:

1. I think that she got pregnant using donor embryos and Craig's sperm.

2. For those that think that she used frozen eggs, we have seen that it is very precarious to use frozen eggs, as evident from other stories on infertility forum. Eggs do not survive thaw process as well as embryos and it she froze only 12-15 eggs lets say that is not nearly enough. However, I will give her the benefit of doubt.

3. For those that suggested that she used frozen embryos, that is the least likely scenario. She began dating Craig in Dec 2010 when she 40 years and 9 months old. Unless she knew she was going to marry him and have children with him day one, she would't have created and frozen embryos with him then and there. He would have had to agree to that from a day one. At 40+ every month that passes by is a decade in fertility terms, so it's unlikely she froze them at 42 or 43 without a high rate of aneuploidy.

4. Media is doing a huge disservice throwing around titles about celebrities and high profile persons getting pregnant in their late 40s/early 50s without mentioning that this is biologically highly unlikely (although not impossible). In infertility world we know that the most important thing is the age of an egg (age of an egg is same as the age of a woman because women are born with all their eggs). The age of an uterus doesn't matter provided that it is anatomically fine (in majority of women it is) and a women is in general good health. So, it does not matter who carries an embryo technically speaking. It matters who conceives an embryo and in this case it's most likely a donor and Craig.

If you're on the infertility forum you should know the correct terminology. Donor embryos wouldn’t have Craig’s sperm.

It’s totally possible that she froze her eggs in 2008-2009 when she was in her late 30s and her relationship with Darren Aronofsky was ending. I have a friend who froze her eggs at SG around the same time period and around the same age (she was 38). She has a 3yo now.
