Idk. I personally think that we don’t quite know the long-term health effects of elective freezing of eggs. In particular, I would be concerned that the increased hormones could lead to an increased risks for certain types of cancer. Additionally, I worry that as a society we need to focus on supporting motherhood through paid maternity leave and things like that first or else the new norm will be companies expecting women to delay having kids in a way that also is not a real choice.

Well idk about you but I don't think that is realistically going to happen in the next 20-30 years. Maybe the generation that comes after our kids' gen.

What's amusing to me is all the women harping that you need marry, get laid, and have all those kids before your eggs dry up. Five years ago - everyone said that age was 35. Then it became 40. Now suddenly - its 'oh 45 is the line dear, you'll never have kids'.

It's almost like, *gasp*, medical breakthroughs happen every day.

I have a couple more years with my current mirena. I turn 41 next month. My ob/gyn said she'd give me one more, which gets me to 47. HOPEFULLY I'll be well past child-bearing by then.

But we thought we couldn't have one naturally after 3.5 years of unexplained secondary infertility in our 30s, and our happy little surprise IS here, so I put nothing past mother nature.

I'm 46 and my doctor recently refused to put in another IUD because she said it was incredibly unlikely for someone my age to get pregnant without significant help. Like 0.0001%. I said, "I could beat those odds. It would be just my luck." Not because I'd want to, but because I feel like I'm stupidly fertile. Now I'm too paranoid to have sex. I'd be that 0.0001%.
